Ancestors names

Emmafh3 · 12/08/2018 20:52

I'd like to hear the names of your ancestors, grandparents, great grandparents, great aunts and uncles and so on names, no matter how unusual, old or odd.
I don't know many of mine and would like more inspiration!
I've only got Arthur, beryl, joey, Dorothy, Ada that I'm aware of

@LittleSpace, oh, you WIN! Amazing names. I love Philadelphia and Zilpha.

The more outlandish ones of mine, from various branches, include:
Experience
Relief
Sopenah
Adelia
Raydin
Volney
Veraines

...but mostly the men are consistently called Thomas. Unbelievably annoying when it comes to genealogy. Other 'normal' names that recur are:
Florence
Minnie
Sarah
Louisa
Ellen
Blanche
Harriet

I have twins
After they were named I did a tree on DHs side and there are siblings with my twins names on every generation. It's really odd. Neither of us knew - his father was an only child, bit it's a bit weird.

IVflytrap · 13/08/2018 00:00

Honour, Rhoda, Phillis, Hepzibah, Keturah, Harriot
Prudence, Jemima, Rosella, Meriel, Celia, Agnes
Maud, Hilda, Rosanna, Pearl, Eiluned, Marjorie.

Esau, Eli, Samson, Josiah, Simeon, Isaiah, Napoleon (I have no explanation for this one!),
Denis, Major (or this one!), Howard, Herbert, Horace.

Also a fair few nickname-names used as first names (the horror!): Kate, Florrie, Molly, Betsy. Harry, Bertie and Bert.

(But most of them are Mary, Ann, Elizabeth, John, William or Thomas. Grin)

DuggeeHugs · 13/08/2018 08:31

@GreenTulips that's a really cool coincidence! How many generations does it hold for? There are so many great quirks with family history Smile

vampirethriller · 13/08/2018 09:18

Ellener (Eleanor but was spelt wrong)
Rebecca
Maud
Marriot
Marian
Lilian

William
Thomas
Leslie
John

My Grandad's siblings all had Gordon as a middle name. Alright for Alan, William and Michael but not really for Margaret and Anne...
