What’s Coco short for?

Love the name Coco for a girl but would prefer a longer, more traditional name for birth certificate and to use Coco as a nickname. What could Coco be short for? I can think of Cora, Coralie, Chloe...

Thank you everyone, some great suggestions there! Think I’m now leaning towards Coco as a middle name...

Coco?
As in coco the clown 🤡
Please don't call anyone that they will be ridiculed and prob get to 18 and try to change their name legally as it's so awful!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/08/2018 12:25

I know a little Chloe (CoCo).

NordicNobody · 13/08/2018 15:01

Definitely Constance. It's a marvellous name and coco is a great nn.

NordicNobody · 13/08/2018 15:04

And coco for me will always be Chanel, never pops, nut, or 'the clown'. You can get her this book to cement it (and a bag on her 18th, obviously).

@MrsRachel85 thank you so much 🙈 think me and boyfriend have decided on 'winter blossom' and we love it and have came to the conclusion that not everyone is going to like it 🙃 xxxx

Macarena1990 · 13/08/2018 15:54

My 12 year old dd is Coco. Not short for anything.

She has quite a sensible middle name should she think she needs it in the future, but at the moment she is happy!

NothingOnTellyAgain · 13/08/2018 16:05

Makes me think of Fame! Everyone wanted to be Coco including me :D

You could call her Coco and give her a more standard middle name she can use when she grows up if she chooses, or vice versa.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 13/08/2018 16:06

Amazed I seem to be the only one to think of Fame! Eitehr am a lot older or younger than everyone else on thread Grin

One I know is Constanza

Biologifemini · 13/08/2018 18:40

Coco is lovely but I wouldn’t name her after Chanel. While she was successful she had a dubious wartime history I wouldn’t want a child linked to.

qumquat · 13/08/2018 19:01

The only Coco I know is a Cordelia. I love both names and I agree with you op that she should have a more formal name she can use when she's older if she chooses.

Cosima is gorgeous with nn Coco.

Mrssnickers · 13/08/2018 20:28

I adore Coco and it’s a real contender for future DD.

We know of (friend of a friend) who calls her DD Coco as a nickname for Charlotte Olivia?

WillisSon · 01/09/2021 03:21

I kinda feel like Coco is a classic stripper or hooker name.
Like it's super cute but in an airhead ditzy way. I'm hearing "hi! My name is Coco!" Compared to "hi! My name is Sarah!/Louise/Dana/Anna/Rebecca/Rhiannon/Nicole/Alison/Sophie

They're all sensible. Without been yuck

Then there is Coco, Millie, Hollie, Ava, Lucy, Porscha, Tiffany, Sami, Mardi

Bubbly and sweet and flirty and more worried about acing pole class than science !
But I'm in Australia. Our name preferences/trends vary a fair bit.

Themeparklover · 01/09/2021 03:53

my name is one of he 6th comment mentioned and I was called coco at secondary school

LimeRedBanana · 01/09/2021 04:11

I’m surprised Courteney Cox hasn’t come up - she basically named her daughter after herself.

I’m pretty sure her given name is just Coco - not short for anything. Of course, different rules apply to celebs. Wink And judging by Insta, she does actually refer to her as ‘Coconut’!

1forAll74 · 01/09/2021 04:51

Not keen on the name Coco for a girl, have only heard of coco the clown. but my daughters female cat is name cocoa, which is useless information I know !!

manhattenrain · 01/09/2021 05:19

I love Coco as a nickname. I'd personally do CO initials (eg. Clara Octavia)

I think it could also work for Celeste, Chloe or Collins. Smile

Rangoon · 01/09/2021 05:19

Colette might be a good choice but people will always mix up the number of "l"s and "t"s. I do think it is better to give a child a name that is suitable for them when they are older. One of my colleagues said the test should be whether you could imagine a High Court judge with the name. I'm not sure about the High Court judge but I will say our cat Coconut is called Coco.

Charlize43 · 01/09/2021 05:32

Coco? Cocaine?

CutePanda · 01/09/2021 05:33

Be aware that other DC will call her Coconut and Coco Pops. They won’t know about Coco Chanel or Coco the Clown.

Many of the names mentioned here are a bit of a stretch. Coco isn’t a good nickname simply because their first name starts with a C. Chloe is the only one where it kind of works. Maybe use Coco as a middle name.
