What’s Coco short for?

Love the name Coco for a girl but would prefer a longer, more traditional name for birth certificate and to use Coco as a nickname. What could Coco be short for? I can think of Cora, Coralie, Chloe...

Or of course the other way round!

Constance Nicole

I have a coco- her proper name is Carys which gets used too. Boring story about why she's called that but she totally suits it, and it isn't really all that 'out there' I don't think. I know of a Collette shortened to Coco, too.

Condragulations · 12/08/2018 20:25

Cosima was on my short list but I had two boys. LOVE the name and the character on Orphan Black

I’ve also got a lot of love for Nico and the character off Broken Sword Blush

AdamantEve · 12/08/2018 20:28

I know a Coley, that name has the same “Co” sound at the beginning?

Belindabauer · 12/08/2018 21:21

I know a Nicole and a Nicolette , neither go by the name Coco.

Pigeonpresent · 12/08/2018 21:24

Because she’s got little legs

BellaAmora · 12/08/2018 23:32

Short for corinne

BettySpagBol · 12/08/2018 23:49

I want to say Kokomo

Skittlesandbeer · 13/08/2018 00:03

Coco on its own is short for ‘my parents prefer I don’t become a CEO’, if you ask me.

I also don’t like it when parents use a nickname as the full name, ie Tabby on the birth certificate. It smacks of insecurity that the kid won’t have enough friends to generate a nickname more naturally.

But I know I’m in the minority with these views...

Coconut

Ginandplatonic · 13/08/2018 05:06

The only Coco I know is just Coco. It's cute now she's 6, but I agree with you that a more formal name to give her options later would be better. Cosima or Constance are my favourites.

Ginandplatonic · 13/08/2018 05:07

Also like pps suggestion of C O initials.

NotAnotherHeffalump · 13/08/2018 07:47

The only Nicole I know gets shortened to Nicki. I think most people would naturally jump to Nicki/Nicky before Coco.

I knew a Rebecca who liked to go by Becca, but loathed anyone calling her Becky. I think you'd have to be happy if either nickname developed.

ThatsWotSheSaid · 13/08/2018 07:56

I think you should use another first name with Coco as the middle name then call her Coco.

Aprilshowersinaugust · 13/08/2018 07:59

slovenlys · 13/08/2018 08:53

I know a Koroni (coh-Ronnie) who is called Koko

NewUserNameTime · 13/08/2018 09:05

I think Coco is very cute but agree with giving her a longer full name.

I know Coco's from Chloe and Collette. I love Nicole though as a full name, it's pretty and classic. Coco is a much nicer NN than Nic

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 13/08/2018 09:08

The only Coco I've met is actually called Amanda probably not helpful

Faroutbrussel · 13/08/2018 09:19

A quick google says coco is a nn for the Spanish name Socorro

Aurea · 13/08/2018 09:21

My dog is called Coco. It's one of the most common dog names. I don't know if this is relevant to you?

EmpressOfSpartacus · 13/08/2018 09:24

Cute is bad for anyone under about 7, though.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 13/08/2018 09:25

Or rather for anyone over about 7, sorry!

kaylanelson · 13/08/2018 11:13

@MrsRachel85 just go for it! it's not a 'too out there' name it's beautiful! I want to call my daughter winter and people are saying it's too out there but at the end of the day it's your child ... and whatever name you think is 'the' name go for it! good luck xxx

MrsRachel85 · 13/08/2018 11:43

@kaylanelson Thank you! I know I shouldn’t care what other people think but can’t help it sometimes 🙄
For what it’s worth I love Winter, Winn and Winnie!
