What’s Coco short for?

Love the name Coco for a girl but would prefer a longer, more traditional name for birth certificate and to use Coco as a nickname. What could Coco be short for? I can think of Cora, Coralie, Chloe...

Nicole

X post !

Someone’s probably already said it but Chanel was actually Gabrielle. I love both coco and Gabrielle!

Firtreefir · 12/08/2018 17:55

I agree having a more traditional name to use easily if she chooses is a good idea.

I think Coco is sweet for a child but not the easiest name for an adult woman in a professional career to pull off.

Our DD's name is one of the ones you mention in your OP and Coco is one of her nicknames. We didn't intend it, but her cousin couldn't say the full name and shortened it all by herself! I think nicknames often evolve anyway so pick a name you like that could be connected and use Coco as the shorter family version. She can decide as she grows up whether she wants to keep it.

tootiredtospeak · 12/08/2018 18:15

Nicole definately shortened to Nico or Coco.

foxtiger · 12/08/2018 18:32

My first thought was Gabrielle (because of Coco Chanel) but I've also known a Chloe who was sometimes called Coco.

Connie?

MrsRachel85 · 12/08/2018 18:53

@bikerunski Sorry what does ‘x post!’ mean?

I know an 85 year old Colette who is Coco.

MikeUniformMike · 12/08/2018 19:22

Nicole seems dated. Courtney would give nn Coco, but is probably dated.
I'm not keen on Coco but would be ok as a nn.

AutoFilled · 12/08/2018 19:34

If you are worried it’s a bit too out there and she won’t like it. How about Coco as a first name, but with a safe traditional middle name. Then she can always go by the middle name if she hates it in her teenage years.

I will just use Coco because it seems far fetched to be a shortened form of anything.

newbie27 · 12/08/2018 19:38

Only coco I know is Courtney.

AMAAAA · 12/08/2018 20:00

I know a French Corinne who is called Coco for short.

MikeUniformMike · 12/08/2018 20:13

Corinne is nice.

itssquidstella · 12/08/2018 20:14

Cosima is nicer 😬

BakerBear · 12/08/2018 20:18

Coco pops.

It’s a silly name

pieceofpurplesky · 12/08/2018 20:23

Nicole is not dated - it's a classic name.

Nicole Collette
Nicole Cordelia

So you have the Coco in it and your DD can choose a less cutesy name when she is older

Nicolette Constance
