Hello,

So I'm only 9 weeks!

Choices so far;

I don't want anything too popular or cutesy

Beth/Betsy
Della-my Nan's name which I love but worry about the connotations for the rest of my family-how does it sound to people who haven't known it all their lives?
Anna
Ada
Ava-aware this is super popular
Marella-This is both our Nan's names Mary and Della put together

Boys-

I only like

Nathaniel/Nate
George
Isaac
Isaias
Ezra-maybe

Any more suggestions?

I've not heard the name Della before but I like it. It feels nice when you say it, if that makes sense!

stiffstink · 09/08/2018 22:41

I like Della a lot (big fan of family names and those which aren’t top 100).

Google tells me that Marella is a cruise company but I had to google it to know. Personally I would use Maria/Marie/Mary/some other Mary name as a middle name instead of putting the 2 together.

Of the others, I like Anna. None of the rest are what I would say are “strong” names.

Gronk27 · 09/08/2018 22:51

Yes we've considered Della Mary. Should also mention last name would be Sharp :)

George and Isaac are my favourite out of your boys names.

Other suggestions include: -

Josiah
Zachary
Judd
Matthew
Miles
Gregory

Anya
Antonella
Matilda
Anne-Marie
Mariah
Christabel
Margot
Greta
Adela / Adele / Adelaide

Beth/Betsy that is pretty cutesy sounding to me! Why not Elizabeth and nickname.
Della-my Nan's name which I love but worry about the connotations for the rest of my family-how does it sound to people who haven't known it all their lives? Lovely - unusual but in a good way.
Anna - not that popular at mo, a bit retro.
Ada - too popular and of the moment.
Ava-aware this is super popular - as above.
Marella-This is both our Nan's names Mary and Della put together - lovely name and meaning.

I like all these three:
Nathaniel/Nate
George
Isaac
Isaias - not sure on this. I feel like it's spelled wrong but maybe I've just not heard of it.
Ezra-maybe - don't like at all, too trendy and I don't like z and r together.

Quangot · 10/08/2018 07:32

Beth/Betsy - I like Beth as nickname for Bethany or Bethan. Betsy is very cutesy.
Della - great name, I like this, preferably as nickname for Delilah.
Anna - classic and elegant, if a little dull
Ada - like, has more punch than the hugely popular Eve/Evie/Ava
Ava - see above
Marella - it's OK but prefer Mariella

Cara
Stella
Zinnia
Georgia
Lena
Cassia
Naomi
Martha
Amber

I like all your boys names.

Ray
Elias
Lawrence
Vincent
Daniel
Zachary
Peter
Edwin
Magnus

Della is lovely, OP!

Threeandabit · 10/08/2018 09:37

Adeline \ Madeline

Gronk27 · 10/08/2018 10:03

Thanks for the love for Della it's reassuring!

We can't have Elias which I love because a very good friend's little boy is Elias which is lovely. Isaias is a funny one, I'd be tempted to spell it Isias which is incorrect apparently. Maybe Isiah?

Perhaps should have pointed out Marella is an Irish name but I'm still not sure.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I forgot to put Beatrice on the original list! Someone suggestion Annemarie but I quite like Marianne.

Really like Della and the family link.
Love George and Isaac (I have an Isaac and we shorten to Zac).

SequinsOnEverything · 10/08/2018 10:26

I have also never heard Della before but really like it. It means something to you so I'd go with that for a girl.

ReginaPhalange89 · 10/08/2018 10:31

Never heard Della before but I agree it's pretty and even nicer than it has meaning to you.

MorrisDancingViv · 10/08/2018 10:56

I really like Della but it's also a family name for me.

What about Mariella? It's an established name.

Not keen on your boys names but I don't really like many boys names at all

Seth
Amos
Jonah
Jacob

Caleb are of a similar ilk to what you like

DailyFailAreTwats · 10/08/2018 11:04

Another vote for Della. Lovely and unusual without being too weird, and the family link makes it extra special!

TillyTheTiger · 10/08/2018 11:08

I've never heard Della before but I love it!
I would spell it Isaiah, if you use that name, as that will be the more familiar (biblical) spelling for most people

MeyMary · 10/08/2018 11:10

Beth/Betsy: I pretty Elizabeth nn Beth/Betsy. Or maybe Bethany?

Della: how does it sound to people who haven't known it all their lives?

It sounds nice but a bit nickname-y imo. A good middle name but could also work as a first name (depeneds on your surname)...

Anna: love it!
Ada: lovely!
Ava: no.
Marella: Mariella is much nicer imo. And it's still a mashup of their names... I'd probably name the LO Mariella if these were the names of my grandmothers :)

Nathaniel/Nate: love it!
George: boring but fine.
Isaac: nice.
Isaias: I don't like it...
Ezra: maybe... I prefer Nathaniel, George and Isaac.

LoveInTokyo · 10/08/2018 11:18

Anna is the standout best of all your girls' names. Strong, simple, elegant. Love it. Some of the others are a bit "wet" IMO.

Marella sounds made up. What about Mariella?

askmenothing · 10/08/2018 11:20

Della is a fab name. That should definitely be your girls choice.

Gronk27 · 11/08/2018 12:39

Thanks all feeling really positive about Della now just need to talk to my Mom, Dad and Brother to see if it would be weird for them. My Nan's a 'character' haha!

I really like both Della and Marella.

keyboardjellyfish · 11/08/2018 12:46

Della Sharp sounds like an amazing combination. Definitely the best name on the list.

Babymamamama · 11/08/2018 12:48

Don't like Marella I prefer Mariella.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 11/08/2018 12:51

Love Nathaniel/ Nathan / Nate and Anna - both were on our list!

Leon
Aidan / Hayden
Evan
Marcus
Dominic

Chloe
Lauren
Martha
Eva

PinkFlamingo888 · 12/08/2018 15:34

Someone else mentioned it but Marella is a cruise line. It is the new name for Tui cruises so still quite new but in time I’m sure it will be more recognised as a cruise line so I would avoid this personally. It means Celtic Sea I believe so would have been a nice name in its own right

Treaclepie19 · 12/08/2018 17:08

I like Della and Ezra :)
