Ruby or Albie

Torn Between two baby girls names at the moment hoping to get a majority vote from this thread haha;

Ruby or Albie

I know Albie is traditionally a boys name but I love the idea of it for a girl.

In case it helps "Marie" is babies middle name following family tradition

Other name suggestions welcome!

I’ve only known boy Albies and it is very popular here as a boys name.
Ruby is lovely as is Marie.

DramaAlpaca · 09/08/2018 17:56

Ruby Marie is very sweet.

I don't like Albie for a boy and I think it's a bit daft for a girl. Sorry!

AtticaRose · 09/08/2018 17:57

Albie as a NN for Alba or Alberta would be very cute. I'm not sure it works on its own.

SoyDora · 09/08/2018 18:00

I know 4 boys under 3 called Albie. Very popular round here as a boys name. What about Alba?
I don’t much like Ruby either.

Larrythelamb84 · 09/08/2018 18:01

My daughter is Ruby so obviously I'm biased, but what I will say is there are LOTS of Ruby's in our local area. Some parents have tried to spice it up with deviations of the name (Rubee, Rubie to name a few), but still pronounced the same.

SmilingButClueless · 09/08/2018 18:02

Prefer Ruby, but how are you pronouncing Marie? Because if it’s more like Ma - REE then it goes well with Ruby, but if it’s more like Marry / Murray then it sounds quite close to the rhyming slang for curry...

DC2018 · 09/08/2018 18:05

Ruby Marie is gorgeous. I don't really like Albie and think of it as a boys name tbh x

girlbump · 09/08/2018 18:05

pronounced "ma-ree" so no curry names here haha

I prefer Ruby personally. Albie feels a bit like a nickname to me.

TheHalfBloodPrincess · 09/08/2018 18:07

Ruby is better than Albie for a girl, but I love pps suggestion of Alba - tops them both!

girlbump · 09/08/2018 18:11

Thank you guys these a very helpful comments! I loved Alba however older generation can't seem to detach the link with old cheap TV brand haha! can't please everyone I suppose!

Alba, Alberta, Albertine are all great. Ames, more interesting than Ruby imo. Albie is cute while she's little.

pipilangstrumpf · 09/08/2018 18:24

Sorry, names

wishingitwasfriday · 09/08/2018 19:36

There are sooooo many baby Albie's round here (boys) that I would find a girl Albie very strange.

TheCag · 09/08/2018 19:47

I like Alba or Albia for a girl, I’ve only known Albie as a boys name.

MikeUniformMike · 09/08/2018 19:51

Albia looks suspiciously like a typo.
Alba is lovely.
I like curry.

TheCag · 09/08/2018 20:11

As soon as I posted it I realised it’s an anagram of labia! Maybe not the best choice after all, sorry op Blush

Blondemother · 09/08/2018 20:29

Agree with MUM - Alba is lovely.
As is curry.

Cherubfish · 09/08/2018 20:31

The only Albie I know is a dog!

girlbump · 09/08/2018 21:37

Would I be crazy to throw Sydney into the mix? quite like that name too.

ReginaPhalange89 · 09/08/2018 21:44

I like Ruby. Albie is a cute nn but short for something else ! Definitely sounds like a bit though

KateMcD451 · 09/08/2018 21:47

I love the name Ruby Smile

LucyFox · 09/08/2018 21:52

Not Albie
Ruby is ok but I don’t like it with Marie - what about Rosie or Ruth instead?
Rachel Marie?
Alice Marie? Or Allison Marie (nn Ally - not Albie but ...)

Glumglowworm · 09/08/2018 22:04

I like Ruby the best by far

I know a couple of little girl Sydney and it’s grown on me a bit

Not Albie! I don’t really like it for a boy but definitely not for a girl

moredoll · 09/08/2018 23:23

Ruby or Sydney. Really don't like Albie at all, sorry.
