Mabli

So I have a question about Mabli & was wondering if any Welsh/Welsh-speaking/people living in Wales can help?

DH and I are debating this name and want to know if it's pronounced May-bli or Mab(rhyming with crab)-li? We're assuming the 'bli' bit rhymes with three/tree etc

If anything be cares I am half Welsh but we don't want to discuss potential names with any family members!

TIA

I would imagine it would be Mab (to rhyme with crab) - lee

(I live in Wales)

Thank you chickens. I'm guessing you don't know anyone called Mabli?

I don't actually , no, but I have seen the name in the paper, you know like when they take a pic of a school event or similar , and name the children..

I personally really like it,, as my grandmother was Mabel, and this sounds like a more up-to-date version.

Sophronia · 09/08/2018 16:57

It’s Mab like crab.

sakura06 · 09/08/2018 18:16

It's Ma-bli, but almost all runs together and Mab-li would'nt sound too bad either. 'bli' rhymes with 'tree', like you said). The 'ma' is like the 'ma' sound in 'man'. Lovely name.

pipilangstrumpf · 09/08/2018 18:22

I'd say Mab-li. Like Crab-li

marshallzumarubble · 09/08/2018 18:57

It's my daughter's middle name and is most like the crab pronunciation. It is the Welsh version of Mabel and means 'lovable'. It is a gorgeous name and I almost wish we had used it for her first!

SuperSuperSuper · 09/08/2018 19:01

Lovely name! I'd never heard of it before today.

MikeUniformMike · 09/08/2018 19:22

Mabb-ly. Like Madly.
Welsh for Mabel.
Maybe if you had to ask how to say it, you might be subjecting your DD to a lifetime of the same.

MikeUniformMike · 09/08/2018 19:22

I know a Mabli.

Mindchilder · 09/08/2018 19:24

I know a toddler Mabli (mabb-lee) - not in Wales but doesn't seem to cause pronunciation issues.

Cbeebiesrehab · 09/08/2018 19:33

ADORE this name and it would have been DS name had he been DD

strawberrry · 09/08/2018 19:36

I definitely thought this was pronounced may-bli as on first glance it reminded me of the name Mabel! Have never heard of it before but it is a lovely name.

DickVanTyke · 09/08/2018 19:42

Thank you all, I think it'll be in the running if we have a DD. I would really like a Welsh name for a DD or DS (DD1 has an Irish name) and it's the only Welsh girls name in the running at the moment. I don't think it's DH's first on the list though so we'll see!

FourAlarmFire · 09/08/2018 20:51

I know a very lovely six year old Mabli (pronounced Mab-lee). Great name!

ValleyFire · 09/08/2018 23:29

I'm a Welsh first language speaker, and Mabli is definitely pronounced like the 'crab'-lee. I know only one Mabli who's 12 years old. I think it's a beautiful Welsh name.

Skyejuly · 11/08/2018 07:41

I like it.

chrismartinsfuturewife · 11/08/2018 07:54

JustlikeDevon · 11/08/2018 09:52

I don't know any children named it, though it is lovely. I've heard of it in connection with q local place, cefn mabli.

MikeUniformMike · 11/08/2018 12:26

Lowri and Mali are lovely but will get said as Lowry and Mali/Marley.
Mali is Mally and Lowri more like Lo-ri (as in lo and behold).
