Hi! My husband and I have always LOVED the name Jody, and we're considering giving it to our little boy due in a few months. Any thoughts?! Thanks!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Is it short for anything?

On its own, I would assume it was a girl's name. Though Cody can be a boy's name, I suppose.

Does it have any special connections for you, e.g a family member?

DC2018 · 08/08/2018 18:37

I know a couple female Jodies so think of it as a girls name. There's similar boys names;
Brody
Cody
Bodhi

bridgetreilly · 08/08/2018 19:19

I know a male Jody. Army officer. Definitely nothing girly about him! But I admit, I wouldn't choose it for my son, because it's so easily mixed up with Jodie. As someone with a definitely female name that sounds quite similar to a male name, I frequently get mis-gendered and I hate it.

Other person: May I know how you are related to Mr My Name.
Me: sigh

manicinsomniac · 08/08/2018 19:25

I would assume your child was a girl but I do like the name.

strawberrypenguin · 08/08/2018 19:28

Sorry OP I'd assume girl for Jody too

sexnotgender · 08/08/2018 19:29

I’d assume girl but it’s not the worst name ever for a boy.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 08/08/2018 19:42

I know a Joseph who is known as Jody. Not the most obvious abbreviation!

MariaMadita · 08/08/2018 19:43

Is it short for something?

ReginaPhalange89 · 08/08/2018 19:46

I think it's ok, not my personal taste, I definitely associate it as a girls name though.

finallychangedmyusername · 08/08/2018 19:48

I quite like Jody and his name will stand out amongst Harrys, Alfies and Olivers. I know a male Jody and female Jodie and find the name quite unisex.

AnnieAnoniMoose · 08/08/2018 19:52

I guess it depends where you live, but in the UK people will assume it’s a girl’s name, no matter how you spell it, and it’s just frustrating going through life adjusting other people’s assumptions, so personally I wouldn’t do it.

booniloo · 08/08/2018 19:52

I know a male Jody and really like it for a boy, probably more than for a girl.

AudreyBillingham · 08/08/2018 19:53

I know a make Jody. He's not at all "girly" but tbh I was a bit confused when I first heard his name.

Sophronia · 08/08/2018 22:54

I really like it for a boy.

Redteapot67 · 08/08/2018 22:57

It’s a girls name

dinosaurkisses · 08/08/2018 22:59

I don’t mind it for a boy, but you’d be signing him for countless interactions like-

“Can Jody Smith come through next?”
“That’s me”
“Ooh... I’ve never met a boy Jody before!”
“...”

Ad infinitum

Redteapot67 · 08/08/2018 23:01

Try bodi, Cody, jago, Joel or Jude

BikeRunSki · 08/08/2018 23:03

I know w mane Jodie and female Jody.

DramaAlpaca · 08/08/2018 23:05

I'd immediately think it was a girl's name.

butlerswharf · 08/08/2018 23:13

I know it's unisex but it is way more commonly used for a girl. For that reason I wouldn't use it for a boy.
