Any opinions on the following names , for some have included alternative spellings ,OH family is from a Muslim country and names are mainly chosen so to be inclusive of that.

Thanks!

Layla/Leila
Lyla
Luna
Amelia
Amilah (slightly different to Amelia )
Rayah
Suraya/Surayya
Maya (I believe is pronounced my-ah)
Amaya

Hard to choose. I like Leila, Lila, Luna, Maya and Amaya. They all sound lovely.

Sophronia · 08/08/2018 10:13

Suraya

I don't like Luna. It's too close to loony.

The others are all nice. Maybe not one beginning with L. There are so many Layla Lyla Isla names now, which are pretty but too much alike.

MrSpock · 08/08/2018 10:32

Suraya is beautiful.

bridgetreilly · 08/08/2018 10:34

In order, I like:
Amaya
Amilah
Suraya
Maya (I believe is pronounced my-ah. I think she'll be constantly getting this mispronounced and/or mis-spelt)
Amelia
Rayah
Layla/Leila
Lyla
Luna

Any of the top three would be a great choice.

MorrisDancingViv · 08/08/2018 10:37

I like Amilah, I've not heard that before.

I believe Amaya/Amaia is very popular in Spain but again very nice.

I prefer the spelling Soraya but Arabic/Muslim names aren't my forte so perhaps they are completely different names 🤔

ReginaPhalange89 · 08/08/2018 10:38

They're all very pretty actually, Surayah and Amilah are my favourites.

Luna is my least favourite (my cats name lol )

Icklepup · 08/08/2018 10:41

I like Amaya and Eliza.

MrSpock · 08/08/2018 10:42

I know a few Mayas of varying ethnic backgrounds and no one mispronounces it. I think once you tell people the first time, it’s easy to remember!

RebeccaCloud9 · 08/08/2018 10:44

I LOVE Suraya and Amaya (also Amara).

MiniSunshine · 08/08/2018 11:46

My daughters middle name is Soraya and I adore it! But it's pronounced So-ray-ah rather than So-rye-ah as I don't like that it sounds like the start of psoriasis. Plus I like the nn 'Raya'. I was going to use it as her first name but was worried about the different pronunciations.

MiniSunshine · 08/08/2018 11:55

How are you wanting to pronounce Suraya?

@MorrisDancingViv Suraya is a variant of the original name Soraya. I think Soraya is much prettier! It's an ancient Persian name which comes from the name Thurayya, the word for the pleiadies or seven sisters constellation Smile

emelsie · 08/08/2018 12:08

@MiniSunshine
I do love Soraya too but already have a Sophia , so thought that maybe two 'So' names is too much , would pronounce su-ray-ah .

OP posts:
MiniSunshine · 08/08/2018 12:12

Ah yeah that makes sense! The So and Su make the same sound anyway don't they!

I think Sophia and Suraya sound beautiful together 😍

MiniSunshine · 08/08/2018 12:16

I nearly gave my daughter the middle names Soraya Sunshine 😍 but it made her full name too long so I didn't in the end. But I call her Raya Sunshine at least once a day anyway haha 😊

theveryhighlife · 08/08/2018 12:19

Eliza, I love that name!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 08/08/2018 12:32

What about Amara? I love this name.

Redsharks · 08/08/2018 12:35

Rayah and Luna are my favourites, and both compliment your Sophia IMO. Rayah and Sophia sounds beautiful!

I have a friend from Muslim background and her name is Aziza which I think is stunning also.

Enko · 08/08/2018 12:38

Lovely list

personally I like
Rayah and Eliza the best (love Suraya but agree it wouldnt work w Sophia)

I think Sophia and Eliza would work very well together

AnyaMoondial · 08/08/2018 12:57

Really like Eliza.

ZebraKid71 · 08/08/2018 13:42

My best friend is Muslim and her daughters are named amaya and farrah, which I think are lovely.

I like everything on your list except luna and amelia.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 08/08/2018 18:24

Rayah is pretty and Layla.

manicinsomniac · 08/08/2018 19:29

Layla/Leila - Like it. Particularly the first spelling.
Lyla - Like it
Luna - Not keen. Mainly because of HP and 'Loony Lovegood'
Amelia - Don't like it. I think the 'mealy' sound is unpleasant
Amilah (slightly different to Amelia ) - a little better but still not keen
Rayah - Like it. Never heard it before but it's pretty.
Suraya/Surayya - Like it. Pretty and unusual
Maya (I believe is pronounced my-ah) - Really like it
Amaya - Really like it.
Eliza - Not keen.

I think Amaya is my favourite.
