What do you think of...

Delphi
Mabli
Clover
Sunday
Tuesday
Ishbel
Anouk

... and what other similar names would you suggest for us? (I realise that the day names especially are pretty out there and would only be used if born on that day, and probably only as a middle name).

Don’t hold back! Grin

Funnybunnydog · 07/08/2018 17:42

I dislike them all sorry.

Cherubfish · 07/08/2018 17:43

My favourite (by miles) is Clover.

AtticaRose · 07/08/2018 17:57

I like Anouk.

Is Mabli Welsh for Mabel (iirc)? That's quite cute.

Wellmeetontheledge · 07/08/2018 17:58

I like Delphi, although I would assume it was short for Delphine :)

Clover is nice too, there is a lovely character in ‘what Katy did’ called Clover. It makes me think of a kind person.

thisismygaff · 07/08/2018 18:00

I don't like any of them, however I know of a male Sunday and went to school with a female Tuesday.

Icklepup · 07/08/2018 18:18

I like Anouk but not the others.

NotAgainYoda · 07/08/2018 18:31

I like Anouk

Delphine would be nice

I don't like the others

Can I suggest:

Solange
Manon
Elodie
Anita
Serena

pontiouspilates · 07/08/2018 18:32

Anouk is lovely. Not keen on Clover. Mabli is cute!

NotAgainYoda · 07/08/2018 18:33

Gabrielle
Marianne
Alana

Kezebel · 07/08/2018 18:34

Please don't name your child after a day of the week...

MikeUniformMike · 07/08/2018 18:38

Delphi - no but Delphine isn't too bad
Mabli - yes if youre welsh
Clover - no
Sunday - yes but only if born on a Sunday
Tuesday - yes but only if born on a Sunday.
Ishbel - No. Isabel(le) and Isabella too popular
Anouk - yes if you're french.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 07/08/2018 18:42

Individually I might even like some of them but...seeing them all written in a list like that, they seem a bit try-hard!

Therealpallini · 07/08/2018 18:51

I love Delphi and Clover and also like Tuesday.

manicinsomniac · 07/08/2018 19:05

Delphi - Love it. I know a 3 year old Delphi which isn't a nn for Delphine
Mabli - Never heard this name but it's pretty
Clover - Like it but it does remind me a little bit of cows!
Sunday - Not keen. Too confusing to use a day of the week for a name
Tuesday - Ditto to Sunday. Though I prefer Sunday.
Ishbel - quite like it but much prefer Isobel
Anouk - Not keen. Don't like the 'nook' sound.

Delphi is my favourite.

On possibly similar lines:
Astrid, Aphra, Alba, Aya, Bronte, Briar, Cleo, Coco, Calypso, Devon, Dulcie, Dixie, Eden, Everly, Effie, Fallon, Fearne, Giselle, Genesis, Honey, Iona, Ida, Jessamy, Kiki, Lyra, Livia, Mila, Mala, Marcie, Maeve, Nyah, Nova, Nia, Piper, Posy, Quinn, Romy, Robyn, Saffron, Taryn, Tansy, Tegan, Veda, Vashti, Zeryn, Zia

Maireadd · 07/08/2018 19:06

I wondered how long it would be before someone came out with “try hard” Hmm

I love Manon, great suggestion!

Maireadd · 07/08/2018 19:06

Ooh, and Astrid, Cleo, Iona, Piper

RavenWings · 07/08/2018 19:10

Delphi - ok
Mabli - new to me. I don't like Mabel but this isn't bad.
Clover - barnyard animal
Sunday and Tuesday - things I would have named a child if I'd had one at 16. Leave it to Robinson Crusoe.
Ishbel - I know it's a traditional variation but never liked it, puts me in mind of someone with a lisp.
Anouk - and cranny.

These popped into my head:
Anoushka
Electra
Damaris
Mirabel
Zinnia
Kerensa
Paloma

However, I'm thinking that from your OP you seem to go for non a ending, fairly short names so something like these might be better:
Winter
Lorinne
Eleri
Carys
Celeste
Vesper
Wren
Malin
Maren
Simone
Xanthe
Maeve/ Meabh
Shiloh (bit too Angelina Jolie for me though)

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 07/08/2018 19:19

To be fair, OP, you asked for "your thoughts" on the names.

The virtue of these threads is that you can genuinely find out what people think, otherwise there seems little point asking.

Maireadd · 07/08/2018 19:33

I know, and constructive criticism is fine and welcomed.

Try hard is just v predictable and doesn’t really mean all that much. As is so often said on here, surely it goes without saying that we are trying hard to find a good name for our child?

Just say they’re all achingly pretentious, if that’s what you really mean.

RavenWings I love Anoushka, Paloma, Winter, Vesper and Xanthe. Thanks!

OP posts:
3stonedown · 07/08/2018 19:37

Of your original list I think they all look a bit made up apart from Clover, Sunday and Tuesday. Sorry..But go for one you love! I like Xanthe

SumAndSubstance · 07/08/2018 19:39

I quite like Delphi, but would be a bit worried about the drugged-up prophetess connotations. These aren’t obvious to everyone though!!
How about Delta?
I like Mable a lot, but agree it’s much cooler if you’re welsh.
Clover is not really my scene, but it’s okay. There are far worse things than ‘it’s a cow’s name’. Besides, Daisy is pretty accepted and that’s definitely a cow’s name.
For some reason, I like Tuesday and Wednesday as names, but not any of the others (at a push, Monday) Sunday has ‘on the seventh day...’ vibes so I don’t think it works.
Ishbel I am not too keen on and I don’t mind Anouk.
I love Astrid and I always quite fancied an Athena or Minerva.

SumAndSubstance · 07/08/2018 19:41

Mable obviously meant to be Mabli...
Things moved on a little while I typed. I also like Paloma and Winter of new suggestions!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 07/08/2018 19:59

Seem to be going against the grain here, but my favourite of your first list is Ishbel - but then, I'm Scottish and it's a Scottish variant.

Mabli I like but I think you could probably only use it if you were Welsh/spoke Welsh well enough to pronounce it right.

I'm not keen on the rest of the first list but I like Astrid from the next set of names.

ReginaPhalange89 · 07/08/2018 20:04

Sorry I'm really not keen on any of them. But then I'm a more traditional name type of girl.
Cleo and Piper like another pp suggested are pretty , and much less 'out there' than your original list

MikeUniformMike · 07/08/2018 20:05

Astrid - lovely but likely to be very popular
Cleo - yes, or Clio.
Iona - not mad about it, but it's ok. Check if it goes with the surname.
Piper - no. Surname and Pi or Pipes likely as nn.
