Finding a compromise

I have very different tastes to my OH when it comes to names.

I’m of Scandinavian heritage (Danish), and am inspired by names from that part of the World, I’d ideally like to recognise that in the name of our first child. I like Asta, Saskia and Malin for a girl, and Torben and Aksel for a boy.

OH is not too sure about names that are too ‘out there’ or unusual for boys...he likes Liam (that name actually offends me!) and ‘strong’ names. He’s more easily persuaded to be a bit different for girls...but he came out with Phoebe, and while it’s a perfectly alright name, I know lots of Phoebes and I also can’t stand it!! 😳😳😳

Any suggestions for boys and girls please xx

Saskia and Aksel. Not out there at all.
I'm with you on this one.
Liam is ok if you're Irish. Phoebe is lovely but very popular.

Thank you!! @HJL2506 😊 It was slated here when I asked about it previously.

Great list @MorrisDancingViv, my mother is Karen and my uncle is Kristian, and Otto is a cool name but it’s been listed here a LOT recently. It’s definitely a name that fits OHs bill as well as having a scandi feel , thank you to @BikeRunSki too 😊

How about

K/Conrad
Niels (or Neil if you want UK)
Albert
Jonas
Tobias
Matias/Mathias

for girls names I found it easier to find a merge so names like

Lotte
Lena
Helena/Helene
Hannah/Hanne
Anny

Danish myself with a British DH We however went very different to your choice and our children have neither English or Danish names (in fact my 20 year old is called Phoebe Smile)

LarkDescending · 05/08/2018 23:34

Magnus?

I love your girl choices.

LarkDescending · 05/08/2018 23:34

Caspar/Kasper?

StrawberryCat · 06/08/2018 00:50

I love your names! Maybe he just needs to come round to them. My DH seemed to go from disliking a name that I suggested, to then loving it a few weeks later!

Sessy19 · 06/08/2018 06:06

Well that’s hopeful!! Fingers crossed. 😊

I know a Danish girl called Ida - I’ve always thought that was lovely.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 06/08/2018 19:57

I also, was going to suggest Ida, and for a boy Victor.
I like Saskia and Torben.
Anders is another great name, along with Stella.

mumtotwox · 14/09/2023 11:43

What did you go for in the end @Sessy19?

QueeniePlumtree · 14/09/2023 13:19

Nina

The name Mads is good for a boy. I’ve only known one who was Danish.
