Erin?

Hi everyone

We are due a baby girl this month and have agreed on the name Erin. I’ve been wondering what are people’s thought on:

  • Sophia or Sofia as a middle name (or open to suggestions!)
  • any associations about the name...?
  • does it go with Ryan (ds) or is it too similar?

Thank you!

Well Erin means Ireland, but is not popular in Ireland.

kenandbarbie · 04/08/2018 11:14

Middle names go nicely.
Not too similar to Ryan.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 04/08/2018 11:16

I like Erin, know just one 20 yo. Prefer the Sophia spelling, more usual in UK. It is a bit similar to Ryan, though.

PsychoPumpkin · 04/08/2018 11:17

It’s my youngest’s Name. Some people say ‘why Erin? Are you Irish?’ But it’s not really an Irish name, it’s quite popular in the US.

Middle names are nice and it goes well with your sons name

Namelesswonder · 04/08/2018 11:20

I have a 10 yr old Erin, nobody has ever asked me if we are Irish! I don’t think it is too similar to Ryan, goes well.

PoppyPlum · 04/08/2018 11:22

Erin Sophia is lovely.

No associations, just a really nice name.

RavenWings · 04/08/2018 11:23

Yes, seconding that Erin is not a popular Irish name really. It's seen as for Americans who want to big up their Irish connection (grandmother's sister's neighbour's dog once looked at an Irish person sort of thing).

I think it goes fine with Ryan and Sophia is grand as a mn.

PsychoPumpkin · 04/08/2018 11:23

Nameless, it doesn’t happen often, i’ve Been asked twice. I was surprised and a bit Hmm.

daisypond · 04/08/2018 11:26

Erin Sophia is fine. Sophia is better than Sofia, unless you've got links to countries that spell and pronounce it that way. I'm personally not keen on Erin as a name, but I do know quite a few - from their late teens down to early primary school age. None are in Ireland, but two do have one Irish parent. Erin and Ryan are fine together.

userabcname · 04/08/2018 11:31

Erin is a nice name. I have taught/teach quite a few (in England). I like Sophia as a middle name.

SquidgyMcPidgy · 04/08/2018 11:58

Thanks everyone!
DH is half Irish (although never lived in Ireland) so we thought it would be a nice connection.
I am Bulgarian hence the “Sofia” option although Sophia is just as nice imo.
Glad the overall opinion is positive, I think we’ll go for it :)

If you're Bulgarian, then I'd go for Erin Sofia.

midsomermurderess · 04/08/2018 13:50

It's a brand of soup and sauces in Ireland. I'd go for Sophia.

piggie88 · 04/08/2018 14:04

I love Erin! Our daughter is due in September and Erin is one of our choices too. Sounds lovely with Sophia.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 04/08/2018 15:19

Definitely spell it Sofia if you are Bulgarian!

Pudding01 · 04/08/2018 15:40

My DD is Erin and I've had nothing but compliments about her name ☺️ It was our compromise name, but now I love it. Not too popular either 👍🏻 I'm yet to meet another.

Sophia / Sofia goes really well with it. I prefer Sophia but if you want your Bulgarian connection, then Erin Sofia is also beautiful.

You should go for it x

DammitOedipus · 05/08/2018 16:07

I much prefer Erin Sofia. It's not too similar to Ryan. Go for it!

sexnotgender · 05/08/2018 16:11

It’s lovely, Sofia is a nice middle name too.

NotAgainYoda · 05/08/2018 17:08

It's nice. I have like it since The Waltons.

Erin and Ryan is a bit of a mouthful but it wouldn't put me off

ReginaPhalange89 · 06/08/2018 08:25

Aw I really like Erin Sofia if you're Bulgarian and part Irish ! That's sweet.

I think it goes nicely with Ryan. Both names I liked with my last pregnancy. I only know one Erin and she's in her 20s so not too common here

Roseformeplease · 06/08/2018 08:27

Erin very common where I am (Scotland). Nice name but very popular.

PitchBlackNight · 06/08/2018 08:51

Erin is lovely. I think it's quite similar to Ryan but not too bad.

SquidgyMcPidgy · 06/08/2018 13:42

Interesting, thank you all for your comments. Seems like Erin Sofia is a winner.
@roseformeplease I didn’t realise it was so popular in Scotland. We are in the North West and I’m yet to meet anyone called Erin
