Laura or Lorna?

We've narrowed it down to these two names, and are now completely stuck as to which to go with.

On the one hand, I think the spelling of Laura looks prettier, but Lorna is a bit less 'girly' and more unusual/interesting.

Does anyone have any strong opinions either way?

Middle name will be Katherine after a family member

Surname is 1 syllable, starts with S.

One of my best friends is called Lorna and there’s a lovely little girl in DS class with the name too. I love it. Like you say it’s more unusual but has stood the test of time so unlikely to become outdated.

Laura for me!

Bluntness100 · 31/07/2018 14:14

Laura. Much prettier and classier.

Yogagirl123 · 31/07/2018 14:15

Laura

Pudding01 · 31/07/2018 14:16

I think Laura is prettier. But maybe a little dated? Lorna is stronger sounding.

What do you think of Lauren, Lara & Lana? X

Cherubfish · 31/07/2018 14:18

Both nice but I'd choose Laura

MikeUniformMike · 31/07/2018 14:20

Both are nice and are classic. Depending on where you live they may get pronounced a bit differently. I don't like the LORRna or Lorra pronunciations that you get in some regions.
Lona is pretty too.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/07/2018 14:22

Lorna.

But Laura is nice too.

PinkHeart5914 · 31/07/2018 14:23

Laura much classier imo and a lovely name

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/07/2018 14:24

Lorna is my favourite name ever. Laura is also nice but a bit more run of the mill.

dancingunicorns123 · 31/07/2018 14:27

I know a horrible 40 year old called Lorna so it puts me off the name hence why I'd go for Laura

MrsRubyMonday · 31/07/2018 14:30

Lorna reminds me of orange is the new black. It is pretty though.

I knew several Laura's growing up that I didn't like and have family with the name so I wouldn't choose it but it's fairly classic, nothing special I wouldn't say.

I would go with Lorna out of the two.

LoveInTokyo · 31/07/2018 14:36

Laura

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/07/2018 14:38

A friend has a Lorna the same age as my son. 18. It was quite rare to come across one at that time but she said she'd had a dream one night that she was pregnant and had a girl called Lorna and then found out about a surprise 3rd pregnancy a few months later, she had a girl and called her Lorna. She's a stunning girl too.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 31/07/2018 15:30

Laura.

FfionFlorist · 31/07/2018 15:38

Laura, much much nicer than Lorna

Pemba · 31/07/2018 15:45

I like Laura, and it's more classic. (Although some people may say it's very 80s, as there were a lot of Lauras named then. Still classic though.)

Lorna is fine, but I prefer Laura.

Madbengalmum · 31/07/2018 15:50

Laura, all of the lornas Ive known have been a tad nasty tbh.

ToothTrauma · 31/07/2018 15:53

The only Lorna I’ve ever know was a thundering lunatic. I know loads of lovely Lauras tho Grin
