Heard a little boy in the park pronounced E-lie. Does anyone know how this is spelt?

I would spell it Eli

It's Eli

Nogodsnomasters · 30/07/2018 21:44

Yes my nephew is called Eli and its pronounced like that e-lie. My ds 3 can't pronounce L's properly and calls him E-eye.

sonnyboo · 31/07/2018 06:49

Looks like it would be pronounced El-ly as in Elliott

LeeMiller · 31/07/2018 07:08

Eli, pronounced "EE-lie" . It's a (Biblical) name in it's own right but could be short for Elijah or Elias. Eliott has a different sound.

sonnyboo · 31/07/2018 07:09

I think many people might mispronounce Eli as El-lie.

FemaleDilbert · 31/07/2018 07:10

Might be a shortening of Elijah

sonnyboo · 31/07/2018 07:10

Also, is Elias pronounced Eh-lias or Ee-lias?

Icklepup · 31/07/2018 07:29

Eli

DaniCam89 · 31/07/2018 10:41

I love the name Elias. I would pronounce it Ee-lias but nn. would be Eli pronounced Ee-Lie x

MikeUniformMike · 31/07/2018 11:25

Not keen on either of them.
Eli is too biblical and Elias too long.
Don't like Elijah or Elliott either - too babyish.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 31/07/2018 11:29

Not always pronounced as pps have said. I know two men named Eli. One Israeli and one Lebanese, both pronounce it as ‘Ellie’.

sonnyboo · 31/07/2018 13:51

I'd say Elly if I saw Eli or Eliott or Elijah.
