Joel Hughes?

Thinking possibly Oliver for a middle name?

This is hypothetical at the moment as DH & I have never agreed on a boys name but luckily have 2 girls so it wasn't an issue. We are thinking about having a 3rd though so would love to find a name that works that we both like Smile

I am a fan of Joel. I’d say it doesn’t not go, but it’s not the best pairing. The soft l tends to run into the soft h.

But if I loved it I’d use it.

Trialsmum · 29/07/2018 17:53

Sounds fine to me!

This is a problem for us with so many of the boys names we liked. For example any name ending in "s" is a no go, such as Lucas. Joel isn't as bad with hughes as many of the others we have liked.

Josh is another name we like that doesn't work. Also any name ending in "t" doesn't work 😩 hoping Joel could be the one 🙏🏼

Names ending with n sounds are good with Hughes.

Hayden Hughes
Aaron Hughes
Alan Hughes

Not suggesting those names particularly but it goes well.

JustHereForThePooStories · 29/07/2018 18:25

Sounds like “dole queues”
(Sorry, accidentally read some Daily Mail today)

JohnnyKarate · 29/07/2018 18:26

I work with a Joshua Hughes, he goes by josh. Never really thought it didn't go but I never call him by his second name so that is probably why.

MorrisDancingViv · 29/07/2018 18:28

I love Joel, I think it's fine. Actually I also think Lucas Hughes sounds fine. Hugh Hughes, for example, would be odd.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/07/2018 18:29

I think Josh goes well.

And if he doesn’t think that, he has the option of Joshua Hughes which is lovely when he introduces himself for the first time. Then he can just be Josh after the first introduction.

OhMyGawsh · 29/07/2018 18:31

Josh Hughes - the sh before hughes makes it basically say shoes.

EdWinchester · 29/07/2018 18:36

Josh Hughes is all kinds of wrong.

Joel is a lovely name and sounds OK with Hughes. Many names are tricky with H surnames.

MaisyPops · 29/07/2018 18:37

I like it, but ended up Grin at the 'dole queues' post. Sorry.

It's a nice name.

You could consider 3 syllables, Nathanial Hughes, Samuel Hughes, Dominic Hughes.

grumpy4squash · 29/07/2018 18:37

How about Joseph Hughes?

JohnnyKarate · 29/07/2018 18:43

Now that I hear shoes I can't not hear it. 😂

Yika · 29/07/2018 18:44

Lovely, goes fine.

What about a vowel sound before the H

Rory Hughes
Guy Hughes
Ivo Hughes
Alistair Hughes
Etc

campion · 29/07/2018 18:47

It's fine. You're overthinking it.

OhMyGawsh · 29/07/2018 18:50

Joseph Hughes. The ph before hughes makes the sound fuse 😂😂 it's a nightmare last name.

OP posts:
OhMyGawsh · 29/07/2018 18:51

There are names that work with our last name, it's just that, typically, we don't like any of those names!

OP posts:
OhMyGawsh · 29/07/2018 19:05

Any more opinions on Joel? Not really looking for other suggestions as I think I've considered them all during my last 2 pregnancies but a yes or no to Joel would be amazing. Thanks all.

OlennasWimple · 29/07/2018 19:09

Joel is nice, but it runs into your last name: "joweloos"

Daniel / Dan
Simon
Mark
Oliver / Olly
Zachery / Zack

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 29/07/2018 19:13

What I like about Joel Oliver Hughes, or Joseph Oliver Hughes is the initials JOH sound out Jo(e) which is what he’d inevitably be known as 😀

JustHereForThePooStories · 29/07/2018 19:14

Avoid Owain, solely for the Gavin & Stacey reference!

thisismadness77 · 29/07/2018 19:19

Joel Hughes is absolutely fine. I love Joel, top of my list.

Rebecca36 · 29/07/2018 19:32

Sounds good to me. Oliver in the middle would be nice too. Or Oliver Joel.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/07/2018 19:45

Grin@ Dole Queues. I wouldn't have thought of that. and I usually go over names with fine tooth comb.
I was going to ask would you not consider Oliver, but Oliver Hughes sounds like All over yous.
Other suggestions
Dylan Hughes.
Nathan Hughes is also a good suggestion.
Bobby Hughes
