Either as a stand-alone name or as a nickname for Alexandra ??

Love it as a nn but not as a stand alone name. Makes a great alternative to the ever boring Alex

NoFucksImAQueen · 27/07/2018 22:43

I love ally. id give her a "full" name on the bc though so she has lots of options for what she wants to be called when she's older. Alexandra or Alana are nice and both have a few nicknames

imsorryiasked · 27/07/2018 22:48

As a nickname but not as her "proper" name, can be short for:
Alice/Alicia
Allison/Alison/Allyson
Alexandra/Alexandria/Alexis
Althea
Alana
Allegra

Love it.

MISHGS · 27/07/2018 22:52

Lovely nn for Alexandra - rather than 'boy Alex' and 'girl Alex' that I taught in a Year 6 class once. Neither the girl or the boy were impressed.....

TroubledLichen · 27/07/2018 22:57

I like it! I know several in their 20s/30s/40s are who are Alison known as Ally.

DramaAlpaca · 27/07/2018 22:58

Nice as a diminutive for Alexandra, but not as a stand alone name.

OlennasWimple · 27/07/2018 23:00

I'd assume it was short for Alison, but it still works for Alexandra.

Charley50 · 27/07/2018 23:48

I had an aunt Alistine, known as Ali, (or maybe Ally). I think it's a lovey name. Also had aunts Nancy and Esther.

LoveInTokyo · 28/07/2018 01:18

Fine as a nickname, but I wouldn't use it as a full name.

I love Alexandra.

ZebraKid71 · 28/07/2018 05:37

I love it as a nn for Alexandra. Alexandra is gorgeous but not a huge fan of Alex if it's own, I think ally is a great nn.

kenandbarbie · 28/07/2018 06:58

Lovely as a nickname

daisypond · 28/07/2018 12:48

If short for Alexandra or maybe Alexis or Alexa as well. Or Alison/Alicia/Alice maybe.

Beaverhausen · 28/07/2018 12:53

My daughters second name is Alexis after my mom but everyone called her Ally. :)

MrsEricBana · 28/07/2018 12:59

I like it too but agree as a nn not on birth certificate. The female Allys I know are all Alisons and the boy Allys are Alistair, so imo doesn't tend to be short for Alexandra/er which goes to Alex. I still think you could have Alexandra with Ally nn. I like Alicia though.

DaniCam89 · 28/07/2018 13:10

I would assume her name is Allison if nn was Ally. X

cakeandteajustforme · 28/07/2018 13:12

Or Alyssandra?

user1486956786 · 28/07/2018 13:14

I love the name ally / Allie. I don't see why it needs to be a nick name and she still needs a full name in this day and age. Just keep it as Ally :-)
