Boys names.

We are expecting twins of unknown sex, and are having difficulty with boys names.

Our girls names are Beatrice and Catherine.

We like fairly long, classic names. However DP is picky with boys names. His choice is Gabriel and Charles. I like Gabriel but Charles will turn into Charlie, which I don’t really like.

My favourites of George and Henry he hates. He also hates James.

The ones we both like so far

Alistair
Andrew
Arthur
Gabriel

We both like Alexander but don’t want to go for that as it’s too popular. We already have a DS who has a classic name.

DP is a bit funny about both the names starting with A if we choose Alistair and Andrew, but I don’t think that matters too much.

Can anyone suggest any other boys names and offer opinions on these? Thanks. Smile

I think Alistair and Andrew go really well together.
Other names ;
Nicholas
Dominic
Benjamin
Jonathan
Nathaniel
Lawrence
Benedict

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/07/2018 10:18

Meant to say, love Catherine and Alistair together.

MrSpock · 26/07/2018 10:18

I think they go nicely too, and I really don’t think the A thing matters. DS1s name doesn’t start with an A so I don’t think it looks too contrived or anything.

Those are some nice suggestions, I like Benedict and Nicholas :)

Gabriel and Alistair would be a nice combination if you have two boys. I also like Andrew and it's unusual ATM.

Edwin
Leo
Peter
Jasper
Nathaniel
Sidney
Luke
Gregory
Richard
Isaac
Theodore

I like Arthur, George and James from your list.

Our DS1 nam starts with an S and we are expecting DS2 and his name will also start with an S. This is purely coincidental as I don't usually like matching names. But if you love the names I don't think it matters! :)

MrSpock · 26/07/2018 13:20

Thank you! I will mention some of these to DP and see if he likes any of them.

I love George but sadly he won’t let me use it!

Benjamin and Gabriel

Arthur and Lucas

Beatrice and Catherine - beautiful names!

LeeMiller · 26/07/2018 15:12

Your daughters have lovely names. Smile

Gabriel is beautiful. The ones I know get called Gabe or Gab/Gabs, except Italian Gabriele who is Lele. I like the diminutives for Alistair and Andrew less, they seem a bit dated. Arthur is nice but seems quite popular at the moment.

Edmund, Edward, Nathanial, Albert, Alfred, Elliot, Ernest, Joseph, Laurence, Benjamin, Samuel, Francis, Christopher (nn Kit not Chris), Johnathon, Frederick, Thomas.

LeeMiller · 26/07/2018 15:15

Oops, just realised they aren't your daughters yet! But Beatrice and Catherine are both lovely if they turn out to be girls!

MikeUniformMike · 26/07/2018 15:19

I would avoid a matching initial. I like Alistair and Andrew, Arthur is growing on me but I really don't like Gabriel.
How about Alistair and Jonathan or Andrew and Stuart?

MikeUniformMike · 26/07/2018 15:31

Fraser and Miles?

MrSpock · 26/07/2018 15:48

Miles was another name I suggested but DP vetoed. Same with Christopher. Fraser is nice, Ill suggest that one too.

Fraser and Andrew sound good together.
Paul and Mark

Fraser and Allister

Gabriel and Arthur

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/07/2018 16:09

if he has picked Gabriel and you've agreed to it. It's not really fair that he gets to name the other twin as well. You don't seem overly thrilled about Charles so I wouldn't use it especially as you don't like Charlie
if you don't like Shortenings be prepared for Gabriel to become Gabe. You can control it for so long but You can't be telling his mates when he's 16 to call him by his full name. They'll think you're loopy
eg i love the name Vincent but Im not fussed on Vinnie so I'd never use it.
For your other twin. I like Andrew. I think it's definitely long over due a come back.
However keep in mind he could become Andy

junebirthdaygirl · 26/07/2018 16:22

My two suggestions to go with Gabriel were Nathaniel or Jonathan. Already suggested twice when l scrolled down.
Or Gabriel and Simon

MrSpock · 26/07/2018 16:25

I don’t like a lot of shortenings, but Gabe is fine, and I don’t mind Andy. I prefer long names (we want to avoid Katie with Catherine if possible) but I’m prepared that friends may shorten them anyway!

I said I should get to name the second twin as Gabriel is his favourite name lol, but he absolutely hates my favourites.
