My friend is due a baby in December, her 2nd. Her first daughter is called Jessica and she's planning on calling her Christmas baby Holly. She told me yesterday as I quilt and am making her one for new babies arrival. No one else knows name yet.

I didn't make the association straight away with the 2 little girls from soham. Now that's all I can think about and the most crazy bit is their dad is called Ian. Confused

I honestly don't think it crossed their mind but should I say something? Or is it just me being OTT? I don't think it would have been too bad but with their Dad's name...?

I agree with Mrs reader

I think it is much more noticeable if Holly been the eldest. All the news was "Holly and Jessica" rather than "Jessica and Holly".

There was a thread like this very recently. I think, though couldn't swear to it, that the general consensus was that it was not OK to have Holly and Jessica as a sibling pair, although I actually thought it was fine myself.

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about if that helps.

I'd definitely make the connection, i'm not from soham and I'm 36.

I agree with pps that Holly and Jessica is much more recognisable than Jessica and Holly due to how it was reported in the news.

I'm not sure if I would immediately make the connection if the girls are referred to as Jessica and Holly.
However I think it might be sensible to mention it to her - it was such a tragic and well known news story that I can't help but think that other parents with children of a similar age may comment at least if she is aware before she and her DH can make a conscious decision about it before Holly is born rather than potentially regret calling Holly Holly iyswim.

With regards to the Ian element that's an unfortunate coincidence given their choice of name for their girls but I wouldn't necessarily make the connection. For me it's hearing/seeing Holly and Jessica (in that order) that's brings it all back Sad

Bloody hell, well remembered OP. I couldn't have named either of those poor girls it was so long ago. But as a PP said, they will be more likely be "Jessica and Holly" which I don't think will trigger so many memories.
