So we had settled on Frances and Francis for either boy or girl but some comments made me hmmm about it so back to the drawing board. They are still contenders though. So what about the following

I love Frances, though for a girl I also really like Francesca (maybe a more modern sounding alternative and more nn potential) and Marianne from your list.

You can't have Francis Rossi. Status Quo!

Orla Rossi sounds beautiful & also Oliver Rossi.
However if you like Frances/Francis then use it. Not that many people will get the Status Quo link & anyway from I hear the lead singer is a very nice man.

And if anyone says anything derogatory then tell them to do one!

If the surname is actually Rossi I can see why you don't want to use Francis/Frances! He won't be very well known to kids only being born now but I can imagine it feeling a little embarrassing if they get seriously into music and join a band at school or uni - they might start using a middle name instead. Making Francis/Frances a middle name could be okay though.

I like some of the girls' names that sound vaguely Italian - they scan well with it.

Susanna (think it looks better without the h because the surname ends in a vowel that's vocalised)

I think Beatrice Rossi and Susanna Rossi in particular sound really cool.

Francis Rossi - that's a name that rocks all over the world.

I adore Frances! Ooh, Frankie Rossi! And Frank was my boy's name. Why are you put off them? They are classic, underused, beautiful names with a rich history. There are no downsides.

I genuinely like all of your other names too! I think Rossi's a great, international name (I'm jealous!) so I kind of also like Anna Rossi and Francesca Rossi -- both sound quite cosmopolitan.

My initial thought was of Francis Rossi from Status Quo (he is still around too). Remember "Rockin' All Over the World" etc. I loved them as a teenager.

Those are the reasons I would avoid using Francis or Frances, but I do like most of your other choices and think they run along fine with the name Rossi.

From your list I would go with Gabriella or Francesca for a girl. Michael (lovely, strong and classic name which is completely underused now) or Matthew for a boy.
