Subject says it all really! Baby won't be born in April. Please help me and DH decide Mumsnetters...

Well a colleague of mine completely put me off the name Flora when I was pregnant by saying it was the worst baby name he could imagine, he went to school with one and the joke was that she was ‘easily spread’ Confused

I do really like April, I know a June born in May and it still suits her perfectly, I don’t think the month thing matters too much.

JurassicGirl · 18/07/2018 13:59

People I know:

April - born in April
May - born in May
June - born in June
Autumn - born in October
Summer - born in July
Tuesday - born on a Tuesday

I think everyone would assume that someone called April was born in April.

Flora's nice though :)

Readyfortheschoolhols · 18/07/2018 14:00

The 'easy spread' gag is enough for it to be a no from me.
Love April.

auntyflonono · 18/07/2018 14:10

April!
Or Avril

MikeUniformMike · 18/07/2018 14:11

April not born in April? I wouldn't. Will get called Ape or Apes.
Flora - lovely.

Icklepup · 18/07/2018 14:21

Flora

MrsMyreton · 18/07/2018 14:25

Flora was on our list. Ended up as DD's middle name. Still love it!

AtticaRose · 18/07/2018 14:26

I like April better than Flora, but both are nice!

I don't know why everyone here is always obsessed with month names only being for people born in that month - I wouldn't make that assumption at all. (People might ask, but then people ask all sorts to make conversation...)

bridgetreilly · 18/07/2018 14:38

Flora, but I admit I'm not a huge fan of either.

daisypond · 18/07/2018 14:57

I like them both, but I really love Flora.
I don't think you have to be born in April to be called April. The one April I know isn't. I think the Flora "easily spread" jokes have long passed their sell-by dates now - they surely don't use those advertising taglines now.

brodiee · 18/07/2018 15:24

April.

Flora makes me think of margarine or activia yoghurt ads that mention gut flora!

Joeybee · 18/07/2018 15:31

I prefer April. April is unusual but not strange, it's pretty but not too cutesy and I think it grows well with a person. I would find it a bit odd to call a baby April if they weren't born in April...however the only April I know was born in October, and I didn't think about that at all, nor was it strange.

Flora for me reminds me of a cow, or the spread. It's too cutesy. I couldn't take a flora too seriously...can't imagine Flora in business!

FruitandNutty · 18/07/2018 15:52

Oh I wasn't expecting it to be so divided! Almost split down the middle... I think I could get past both the margarine element, and also the not being born in April aspects. Purely deciding now which name has a nicer feel to it..

I love Flora, such a beautiful vintage-sounding name.

I wanted June for DD2 DH vetoed it on account of her being born in December, but that wouldn't have put me off at all.

ZebraKid71 · 18/07/2018 16:20

It only seems to be mumsnet that are obsessed with babies with month names being born in that month.. I know several Aprils and an Apryl, none of whom were born in April. I think it's a lovely name.

HelloBrass · 18/07/2018 16:22

-completely missing the point of the thread-

I know an Autumn born in January and it has always jarred with me...

Lifeaback · 18/07/2018 16:25

I prefer flora personally

SleepWarrior · 18/07/2018 16:29

I like both equally, but would perhaps give Flora as slight edge as Flo is a better shortening than Ape if it ended up getting shortened at school.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/07/2018 16:51

Both lovely !
April.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/07/2018 16:53

Love love love Flora.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/07/2018 17:04

Hate Flora. Love April. However unless she's going to born in April which going by the date of this thread I highly doubt.
Therefore to make the choice for some one else I'd say go with Flora.

Susannach · 18/07/2018 17:06

I prefer Flora. It’s gorgeous!

AnyaMoondial · 18/07/2018 17:48

April!

MariaMadita · 18/07/2018 17:52

I love Flora. Such a beautiful name :) Nice meaning, fairly international, a bit vintage but currently not too popular and really pretty without being cutesy (imo)...

I personally really dislike April.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 18/07/2018 17:54

Flora
