Oliver or Samuel?

We'd pretty much settled on Oliver, but I'm now suddenly wondering if Samuel would be a good option (family link too).

I definitely prefer the name Oliver to Samuel, but significantly prefer the nickname Sam to Ollie, so getting in a muddle. Other options we'd been considering were William, Tobin and Thomas, but neither of us are sold enough on those to move forward. Based in the US if that makes any difference.

Thoughts?

Both are great options - don't overthink it!

Oliver might be slightly more common than Sam, if that matters to you - but I think you should just go with what you prefer.

Oliver Samuel is also great as a combo!

Samuel

My son is Samuel, called Sam. It suits him and obviously I love it.

I do like Oliver but can't bear Ollie (reminds me of a slimy ex Grin) and Ollie seems unavoidable, unfortunately.

Samuel!

We’ve just named our baby Samuel (Sam) and there’s very few of them around here in comparison to Ollie/Olly/Oliver. But make sure to go with which you prefer- you’ll be saying the name quite often!!

Like them both, neither of the nicknames are up there for me though.

Prefer Oliver to Samuel. Oliver Samuel is a nice name too!

Both are nice. Go with your gut.

Regardless of what you plan, he will be called either Ollie or Sam sometimes. Think about what teenagers and adults call each other.

DramaAlpaca · 15/07/2018 17:12

I much prefer Oliver.

I like Sam, but I don't really like Samuel.

I love Samuel.. It's my brothers name and he's such a lovely guy Smile

Oliver is a great name but I'm biased with Sam/Samuel!

Samuel Oliver is a nice name.
