Still kind of obsessing over a name so seem to be posting nearly every day about new ones that pop into my head for opinions 🙈 anyway...
whilst watching TV earlier my hubby randomly came out with the name Lydia, I was pretty shocked as it's the first decent name he has suggested I actually really like it and it's growing on me but is it too old ladyish?

It's beautiful

LadyWithLapdog · 14/07/2018 20:39

It's gorgeous. Classic, easy to pronounce in any language and not too common.

YoucancallmeVal · 14/07/2018 20:40

Love it. Not a fan of "lids" which is the shortening of all the ones I know so you may want to have a nn up your sleeve if you aren't a fan either!

toomanyeastereggsurghh · 14/07/2018 20:40

I really like Lydia, old ladyish is a classy kind of way not ugly like Vera or Edna etc

falaffels · 14/07/2018 20:41

Love it. Very classy.

Keep thinking of Lizzie Bennet’s little sister.

buggedby · 14/07/2018 20:44

Love Lydia it's a beautiful name

Whatififall · 14/07/2018 20:48

I love Lydia. I know 3 though, all under 5, so it might be becoming common.
As pp said default nickname seems to be Lyds, which I’m not keen on. One of the ones I know is nn lyddie though.

MrsBertBibby · 14/07/2018 20:51

Hate it.

A) Lydia Bennett

B) the noise of it bawled from the back of the bus. LIDDEEUH!

freakinbananaspiders · 14/07/2018 20:57

Reminds me of Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice - very cool. There's a Lydia in my daughter's nursery too.

Lifeaback · 14/07/2018 21:00

I love it! It’s classic and won’t date as it’s not massively popular, but not rare enough that she’ll have issues with people never having heard it

DailyMailFail101 · 14/07/2018 21:00

I love it, it was my girl name but I had two boys so wasn’t able to use it!

Royallypissedoff1 · 14/07/2018 21:00

Beautiful

DramaAlpaca · 14/07/2018 21:01

I like it a lot.

HappyLollipop · 14/07/2018 21:01

It's a lovely name.

TeaAndNoSympathy · 14/07/2018 21:02

I love it.

Amethystical · 14/07/2018 21:03

I really loved it for a long time until my brain (for some weird reason) made the link Lydia-Chlamydia, and now I can't undo it. It's still a beautiful, strong name.

HostaToFortune · 14/07/2018 21:32

Love love love love.

Was going to use it as a middle name, but then DS turned out to have a winky Shock

Then by the time DD turned up we preferred name ending in -ia for her first name, so Lydia was out. I’m still slightly sad.

But it is definitely growing in popularity. It’s now inside the top 100.

Pittcuecothecookbook · 14/07/2018 21:33

Lydia the tattooed lady! Can't hear the name without that song getting stuck in my head...

FogCutter · 14/07/2018 21:40

It's a lovely name. Classic and elegant. And not very common (only 1 Lydia in my DCs huge primary school).

Flywheel · 14/07/2018 21:43

I take it you haven't been watching the hand maids tale

blondeemily · 14/07/2018 21:45

I love the name Lydia. It has never crossed my mind that it's an old lady name Confused

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 14/07/2018 21:46

I absolutely loved Lydia until the Handmaids Tale and now Aunt Lydia is kind of an insult for a certain type of bossy, controlling, right wing woman it was levelled at Trumps Press Secretary recently

Mind you I recently made a friend called Lydia and she's a darling
