Max or Samuel?

Just found out it's a boy! :-)

I like Maximillian, and dad wants Samuel...

Other options could possibly be Adam, Philip or Daniel.

What do you think?

I really like both! Both more than Adam, Philip and Daniel too.

I think I'd go with Samuel. I like Sam too.

But Max is also great

Topseyt · 13/07/2018 02:36

I like both Samuel and Max. Adam too, but less keen on Philip

Samuel Max perhaps, with the option of Sam or Sammy for short? Or Max Samuel?

Samuel is a family name for me.

ChocoholicsAsylum · 13/07/2018 02:44

Samuel!!! Sam for short... my sons name. Dont like Max personally... no offence.

Do what ever you are comfortable with. Enjoy being a mum to a boy xx

RedDwarves · 13/07/2018 04:54

Samuel is my all time favourite name.

It's just perfect. Nothing wrong with it.

Not a fan of Max, much less Maxmillian, sorry!

AnyaMoondial · 13/07/2018 05:09

Samuel.
Adam is good too.

HJL2506 · 13/07/2018 05:53

I prefer Max to Sam in short. But between Maximillian and Samuel I prefer Samuel.

BoyInTheOven · 13/07/2018 06:26

I'd say Samuel as I don't like any if the full versions of Max. We had Max on our shortlist but we couldn't get over just using the diminutive form 😓
Maxwell - coffee
Maximilian - too fussy (we felt)
Maximus - too Russel Crow
Maxim - lads mag

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/07/2018 06:52

I like Maximillian but not so keen of Max itself plus there are lots about

I like Samuel

Adam is my favourite from your

Not that keen on Philip but love that it can be shortrned to Pip

Daniel is nice too

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 13/07/2018 06:57

Out of all of them I like Daniel best.

The least I like it’s Philip because I don’t like Phil. Pip is great though. I love the other shortening Sam, Dan.

I quite like Adam as a choice because everyone seems to like it yet it’s quite rare. It always gets the thumbs up on baby name threads.

Joeybee · 13/07/2018 07:50

I like both names. I personally prefer Samuel, but only because I think it's less popular and trendy than Max, and I don't like trendy names. Both names are fantastic, and have good nicknames. I'd be hard pressed to decide between them.
How do the names sound with your surname? That's really important to consider, and might help you decide.

Adam is a little bit plain.
Daniel is awesome, not too popular, but not unheard of, and Dan/Danny are good nicknames.
Phillip is a name I never see used anymore. I don't know why, it's a nice name. Although not much versatility to it like the other names you like.

ThanksItHasPockets · 13/07/2018 07:53

I think of Samuel as being very popular but that’s because I teach secondary aged students from the period when it was top ten. It’s gradually sliding down the rankings now so you probably wouldn’t meet too many. I really love Max, however, and I like Maximilian a lot (spelt with one ‘l’). I also love the French form Maxence as a full name option.

HeyDolly · 13/07/2018 08:22

Max.

I works with loads & loads of Sam/Samuels whereas I only know one Max.

Cosmoa · 13/07/2018 09:04

I love both. My brother is Samuel/Sam and I just adore it! But Maximillion is brilliant name too Smile

Don't like your other choices as the just bore me.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/07/2018 10:03

Adam.

Immigrantsong · 13/07/2018 10:05

Samuel. Max is a popular dog's name abroad.

bertielab · 13/07/2018 10:05

My son is blank Samuel -I love Samuel.

KiplingAngelCake · 13/07/2018 10:27

Both great names, but Max has the slight edge for me.

Only one you've mentioned that I really don't like is Philip.

MikeUniformMike · 13/07/2018 12:27

I like all of them. I love both Max and Sam. My preference is for Max (Where the wild things are)
I would go for Philip as it is such a sound name, but not my baby.
If your surname starts with M, Samuel Adam would be Sam and SAM.

Myfanwyprice · 13/07/2018 12:33

I’ve got a Samuel, and adore his name, think it’s a lovely name through all stages of life. I did try and keep him as Samuel, but he is more of a Sam now, and it suits him so much.
