Found this as a character name in a book and hadn't heard it before - thoughts? Pronounced (there's a guide in the book) JENNicka, not JenEEka.

Sounds like a made up name cross between Jennifer and Jessica

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/07/2018 17:12

Not keen on made up names. Anyway your dd will be constantly correcting people; it’s jenica not Jessica.

ErrantBakedBean · 12/07/2018 17:13

I wondered if that's how it would come across. It is apparently an old Romanian name though.

it's a nice name, but she would spend her life saying 'Jenica, not Jessica/Jennifer'

daisypond · 12/07/2018 17:27

It's not a made-up name. Online says the pronunciation is YEHN-ee-kaa. No idea if that's right, though. I might have thought Zhehn-ee-ka myself, with the J pronounced more like a French "je".

butlerswharf · 12/07/2018 17:30

I was going to say what @FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast said

MikeUniformMike · 12/07/2018 19:38

If you like it, use it but as pp Jennifer? Jessica?

booniloo · 13/07/2018 10:32

If you're Romanian I'd go for it but I'd find it weird if you weren't.

ZebraKid71 · 13/07/2018 11:37

I know two, both are American. On first hearing I thought it sounded a bit odd but I really like it now.

Sessy19 · 13/07/2018 12:11

If you say it out loud, it sounds a bit like someone with a nasal speech impediment is trying to say Jessica 😳 Sorry. It looks like it would be nice x

Flippetydip · 13/07/2018 12:21

I love it! All names were made up at some point in history. (And yes I know this one isn't but still my point remains).

RavenWings · 13/07/2018 12:59

I like it a lot. I can imagine there'd be a bit of confusion and mishearing it as Jessica though

MissMoodyMoo · 13/07/2018 19:25

Sounds very ghetto 🙈🙈🙈

MariaMadita · 13/07/2018 21:01

It sounds like a diminutive Jenny / a form of Jenny.

A bit like Annika, Marika, Mishka, Ivanka etc... Which are mainly Slavic and Scandi, so that's the category I'd put Jenika in as well. (With a Y / Ee sound, btw.)

MariaMadita · 13/07/2018 21:02

Just realised that it's Jenica with a c... Jenica looks like a cross between Jennifer and Jessica, I absolutely agree with a pp.

poppyseed1663 · 13/07/2018 21:08

I knew a Jhenica. It is not a made up name if spelt that way. Smile

Orangeseed · 13/07/2018 21:14

I like it xx

peppapoops · 13/07/2018 22:11

I know of one and she's American. Spelt Jennika. Smile

I really like it, she's known as Jen.

NynaeveSedai · 13/07/2018 22:48

Needs to have double N if you want the stress on the first syllable
