We already have our boys names mostly sorted (Matthew, Owen, Sean, James), but are struggling with girls names!

Names i love but can't have include:

Emily
Laura
Beth
Leah
Eve
Esther

I like Phoebe a lot but DH isn't sure (and I'm not 100%). We both really like Kate but not sure if it's just too boring, and not so keen on Katherine.

Any ideas please!

There is nothing boring about Kate nowadays. It's quite edgy and unusual for a baby now. Plus it's not silly or faddy.
Other ideas of what you might like.

Lucy. Louisa. Lydia. Anna. Alice. Lois. Sarah. Rosa. Martha. Mabel. Lisa. Linnet
Daisy. Heidi. Molly. Nancy. Betsy. Bryony.
Lily. Poppy. Sophia.

Ooh some fab suggestions! Thanks! I LOVE Alice!! I'd forgotten that name! I had a kitten called Alice as a kid which got hit by a car Sad But I don't think that would stop me using it as I've always had a crush on the name.

I'm not keen on Caitlyn at all, and Kitty is a sweet nn, but I still prefer Kate. Yes, i guess you're right that it's not a boring name nowadays! I do really like it so its a strong contender.

I love Evelyn, Emma, Mabel and Martha!

Not so keen on the really popular names like Sophie and Grace etc.

Kate is terrific, there is one at my dd's playgroup, it is wonderfully unusual and strong sounding to hear in a group of Olivias, Lilys and Emilys.

I absolutely love Jane, it is very unusual now and has a very pure sound I think.

I also suggest Greta.

MikeUniformMike · 08/07/2018 14:26

Kate doesn't have to be Katharine. Just Kate is fine. It's not boring but it's not a 'baby' name. I think it's lovely.

dappledsky · 08/07/2018 14:37

We had many of your names on our girl list, the others that made our short list were Ruth, Anna, and Heather.

Sevendown · 08/07/2018 15:18

Emily nice but vv trendy
Laura bit boring, what about Laurel?
Beth good, I like Bethany as the full name
Leah very biblical
Eve too many eve Eva Evie Ava’s
Esther too old lady in tweed

Phoebe I think of the friends character
Kate /Katherine. Kate I like, it’s solid and I do t think it needs a full name

What about

Charlotte
Augusta
Sarah
Alicia
Jessica
Jennifer
Juliet
Ruth
Maria
Lucy
Sylvia

Kate is wonderful and Kate Alexandra is a beautiful combination.

I really like Kate, it's simple and elegant.

Alice is a gorgeous name, sweet on a child and classic on an adult.
