Unusual but not weird names

Still searching for names. We would like something that isn't popular and unlikely to be in school with another. But nothing too weird that we spend the whole time telling people how to spell it/ pronounce it etc..

MikeUniformMike I've pm'd you.

MikeUniformMike · 08/07/2018 17:43

Thank you TroysMammy! It's not that unusual. There was one at school and I know 2 others but one is spelt differently, and it's a form of a name that does crop up on here every now and then, and another form of the name crops up quite a lot. There is a well known actress with the name and a famous singer has it as her real name but she uses a stage name.
Strange that it isn't more popular really.

Has anyone said Alice yet? Classic but I never hear it these days.

daisypond · 08/07/2018 17:51

Surely Alice is mentioned frequently on here?

MariaMadita · 08/07/2018 17:53

Alice is simply lovely. But currently ranked 25th, which isn't particularly uncommon in my opinion...

ArtisanPopcorn · 08/07/2018 17:57

My daughter is Tessa, it’s never been wildly popular but seems particularly underused among young children at the moment. But it’s also very straightforward, doesn’t raise any eyebrows etc. And pretty I like to think! Smile

Clarissa is lovely! I'll have to "steal" that one for my own list. ;)

One of the rare names that works in our 3 languages and isn't mega popular...

I would look at either biblical names as they are pretty much always classy or names popular in the 40s & 50s that haven’t really come back round yet...
I know young women aged 19-22 called Kathleen, Deborah, Helen, Rosalind & Elaine
All lovely names & very unusual in their age groups ...

What about Judith, Margaret, Blanche, Angela, Andrea, Jill, Gillian, Faye, Alison, Elspeth, Imogen, Jayne, Pamela, Juliet/Julie, Cassandra, Jennifer, Claire, Joanne, Caroline, Frances, Christine, Belinda, Louise, Mary, Marie, Patricia

John, Richard, Ian, Stuart, Eric, David, Scott, Neil, Gregory, Malcolm, Adrian, Gary, Neil, Anthony,

Elodie is one of those names that seem unusual but you will find more than one of in a school year.

Cantmakemymind · 08/07/2018 18:28

Nothing's grabbing me yet. I'm not after anything bland @LucyFox way off the mark :)

Camsie30 · 08/07/2018 18:31

My daughter is called Marnie which I chose as it's unusual but not weird. I love it

MikeUniformMike · 08/07/2018 18:33

What sort of names do you like OP? Do you like short no nonsense names like Fay, Kim, Kate, Gail, John, Paul, Mark or long ones like Mariella, Christina, Sebastian, Nathaniel, Gabriel? Or something in the middle?

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 08/07/2018 18:35

Sloane
Florence
Elspeth
Elsbeth
Estelle
Sarron
Seren

daisypond · 08/07/2018 18:37

I wouldn't say LucyFox's suggestions are bland. They're unusual for babies nowadays, but they are known names and won't be common at school.

tootiredtoadult · 08/07/2018 18:38

This is exactly the same as us. We wanted uncommon names but not unusual names. Although since naming DD and DS the names have become slightly more popular. They both have quite traditional middle names though.
We have a Faith and a Jude.
Other names we liked were
Harriet
Ivy
Edith

Gabriel
Elwood
Rupert

It's a minefield out there, but I found people to be quite rude whilst voicing our choices, so didnt tell anyone DS name till after he was born.
Hope you find one you like. X

OhTheRoses · 08/07/2018 18:42

Persephone
Gudrun
Cordelia
Severine
Drusilla
Perdita
Ophelia
Marguerite (Daisy)
Aurelia
Nadia
Mirabel
Mabel

Osric
Gaius (Guy)
Jeremy
Julian
Hywel
Perseus (Percy)
Lawrence
Tristan
Austin
Elliott
Miles
Piers
Quincy
Vincent

If I was having children now I think Merlin and Xanthe (as it is my children "sparkle" but their middle names have been mentioned)

Cantmakemymind · 08/07/2018 18:46

Longer names that could be shortened @MikeUniformMike

I think my favourite for a boy is Humphrey but I'm not sure what it could be shortened to as as I don't like Humpy!

Also seen Tiggy for a girl but would like this to be the nickname but what would it be shortened from?

Phew this is difficult!!
