Carey? (Girl name)

We are in our 2nd trimester now and we are still thinking of baby names. (Not related to my question though).

My best friend just gave birth yesterday and she and her husband had a baby girl. They named her Carey, as in Mariah Carey. I've never heard of the name save for one girl I knew from school. What are your thoughts in the name? I quite like it, though I do have to admit I like names that were originally surnames being used as first names. Opinions?

I like it.

TaggieRR · 03/07/2018 22:57

I quite like it!

Damn, kind of wish I thought if it first! It kind of fits into our name choices too, Cora and Clara if it's a girl :)

It's okay. Seems a bit made up. Wouldn't be my choice.

Phyllispontypandy · 03/07/2018 23:30

I like it.

Everdeen · 03/07/2018 23:39

Carey Mulligan.

halcyondays · 03/07/2018 23:40

It's not made up. I hadn't though of it as being surnamey. The girl in Bedknobs and Broomsticks is called Carey.
I read it a few years ago and it said "Carey was about your age, Charles a little younger and Paul was only six." I was fairly sure Carey wasn't actually meant to be 35 Grin

There's also Carey Mulligan.

Charliecatpaws · 03/07/2018 23:41

I worked with a Carey a few years ago, she was a lovely person and I always liked the name

angelichosts · 03/07/2018 23:41

It makes me think of dentists and fillings. Not the most positive associations!

SarcasticFringehead · 03/07/2018 23:43

Also think of dental caries!

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 03/07/2018 23:44

I like it!

eloisesparkle · 03/07/2018 23:44

It's a surname in Ireland

ZolaShepherd · 03/07/2018 23:45

I love it for a boy. It could warm to me as a girls name though.

DramaAlpaca · 03/07/2018 23:46

I quite like it, even though I don't normally like surnames as first names.

Discobabe98 · 03/07/2018 23:46

I like it but it just sounds like Kerry in my accent (Belfast) I like it for boys too and think the accent would be less of a problem because people wouldn’t presume it’s just Kerry with a boy

Situbo · 03/07/2018 23:52

It was on my girls name list but don’t go with our surname, along with Darcy.

AlyTab · 04/07/2018 00:46

@angelichosts lol I was confused about what you meant until I googled it 😆.

I totally blanked on Carey Mulligan.

It does kind of sound like Kerry when my fiance says it (he's American).

At first glam I would of thought boy.

It's ok just not my style

DeckSofa · 04/07/2018 07:44

I don't like it.

StereophonicallyChallenged · 04/07/2018 07:45

It's definitely not a made up name though, I worked with an older Carey 20 years ago Smile

guiltynetter · 04/07/2018 07:46

i think it’s unisex isn’t it? i went to school with a male carey (i always thought like carey grant) i really like it

AlyTab · 04/07/2018 14:35

Carey Grant too. God durr.

Old fashioned nickname for Caroline - I think Ma in Little House on the Prarie is called it sometimes.
Agree you'd be forever saying no, not Kerry/Carrie/Cary/Kari...

MikeUniformMike · 04/07/2018 14:38

It's Cary Grant and it rhymes with Gary.
Carey - Scarey, dental caries.
