Just that really - really like Gillian, as does dh, but friends think it's too middle-aged. Does anyone know any under the age of 25?

We also like Lillian.

I don't know any Gillians under 45, let alone 25!

I'm not sure if I like it or not, but it's your choice.

Flamingosnbears · 02/07/2018 18:13

It's lovely

HelenaJustina · 02/07/2018 18:15

Oooh I really like it! Not as much of a fan of Lillian as lots of Lilly and variants around here.
Gillian nn Gilly

gillybeanz · 02/07/2018 18:18

i like both, but tbh I don't like my full name.
Gillian was always the name you were sent to see in Personnel.
Lilly is lovely, maybe better than Gillian, but just my opinion.

gillybeanz · 02/07/2018 18:19

I'm in my early 50's.

Squeegle · 02/07/2018 18:20

I like it. My mums name is Gillian (pronounced like gill not Jill). It is one of those names that will enjoy a comeback soon

MollyHuaCha · 02/07/2018 18:23

Lovely name.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 02/07/2018 18:23

Alison? I quite like that.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 02/07/2018 18:30

It's an ok name I guess and she will be the only one in the school called it but it's very dated and not in a good way sorry.

It's the same as Diane, Theresa, Sheila, Karen.

PurdysChocolate · 02/07/2018 18:33

My sister is Gillian, she's 31. Never met a younger one.

Marcipex · 02/07/2018 18:33

I really like it, also Jillian and Lillian.

georgie262 · 02/07/2018 18:45

@GreatDuckCookery you've literally just named all my aunties

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 02/07/2018 18:46
Grin
Disfordarkchocolate · 02/07/2018 18:47

I like it. I also like Jacqueline, a lovely name but not used much anymore.

KirstenRaymonde · 02/07/2018 18:50

Lily and all it’s variants are so overdone now it’s beyond silly, don’t use Lillian because it will get shortened to Lily.

Gillian is very dated, but not enough to be a cool Granny type name. I’d probably think it a bit odd if I came across a child called that but then just get on with it. 100 times better than the million Lily, Ella, Ivy, Evie’s that are everywhere now.

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/07/2018 18:50

I know one who is 24. She’s from Northern Ireland and she’s lovely.

dancingunicorns123 · 02/07/2018 20:08

I know an 18 year old Gillian and she really suits her name x

BlessYourCottonSocks · 02/07/2018 20:15

I know a Gillian - pronounced Gill, rather than Jill and always thought it was fab.

AnyaMoondial · 02/07/2018 20:21

I haven't met any babies/toddlers called Gillian but I think it's a really beautiful, dignified name. Good choice!

Jenijena · 02/07/2018 20:22

This was my favourite bake growing up but I don’t think I could persuade DH to its merits. It always reminded me of water going over a waterfall - no idea why, but I just thought it so pretty.

BeakyPlinder · 02/07/2018 20:28

You pronounce Jill and Gill differently?!!

JedediahBila · 02/07/2018 20:33

We would be pronouncing it Jill, with a 'J' as in 'Jam'.

Yes DH's sister called her daughter Gillian - she's 18 now. Mind you, that's in Singapore so not sure there are many here in UK

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 02/07/2018 20:38

Prefer Lillian.

redmini4 · 02/07/2018 21:11

I know 1 Gillian under 10, the rest are all 30s onwards.
