Love Nelly and Harry.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 02/07/2018 09:39

My favourites are Sophia & Jack.

Really don't like Dolly or Nelly. The others are OK.

Not a fan of Bernie at all. Harry is fine.

hoping2018 · 02/07/2018 09:42

I like Lila, Maggie and Bertie

AtticaRose · 02/07/2018 09:42

Really don't like Dolly or Nelly (except maybe as a nickname for something else).

I like Maggie, but my other half has pointed out most people with think "Thatcher'... sigh. So depends if that bothers you.

DeckSofa · 02/07/2018 09:48

I love Florence and Sophia. I like Nell but personally not a fan of Nelly. Maggie is OK. I don't like Lila, it sounds insubstantial, but I like some similar names like Lena. I like Dolly the least as it just reminds me of toys so sounds babyish to me.

Florence -love
Lila
Maggie
Dolly
Sophia
Nelly

Boys-
Bernie
Harry
Jack

bridgetreilly · 02/07/2018 10:06

I like Florence and Maggie, though I would call her Margaret nn Maggie.

17caterpillars1mouse · 02/07/2018 10:15

I like Florence but it is very popular around here
I also like Maggie and Sophia

I only like Jack from the boys names but again it's very popular here

Breckenridge · 02/07/2018 10:57

Girls-

Florence - love it, and love Flo as a nickname

Lila - really like it, though the only Lila I've ever known, who I went to school with, was constantly having to tell people how to pronounce it. She pronounces it Leela, but teachers at school would always call her Lie-la (to rhyme with Tyler)

Maggie - really like it.

Dolly - hate it. Far too childish for a professional adult.

Sophia - love it

Nelly - fine as a nickname, if short for Eleanor. Definitely not by itself (Nelly the elephant)

Boys-

Bernie - it's alright, I suppose. Not quite my cup of tea. Makes me think of Bernie Sanders, and I suppose you have to remember that it's not unthinkable he'll be the next US President, in which case people might think you're big fans.

Harry - lovely but very popular

Jack - lovely

Sophronia · 02/07/2018 11:17

I like Lila, Sophia and Jack.

MikeUniformMike · 02/07/2018 12:13

Girls-
Florence - so many
Lila - no. Makes me think of Lilo
Maggie - yes. Short for Magda, Magdalena, Marguerita or Margaret
Dolly - yes but
Sophia - too popular
Nelly - no. Nell is ok

Boys-
Bernie
Harry
Jack

MikeUniformMike · 02/07/2018 12:14

Bernie - not sure. Bernard is ok.
Harry - safe. Will be known as Harry Surname
Jack - so many of them.

lenalove · 02/07/2018 15:59

Maggie, Florence and Bernie for me!

iamthefox · 02/07/2018 16:30

I love Florence, Lila and Sophia. Maggie makes me think of Thatcher. Dolly is cute but would prefer it as a shortening for something weightier. Same with Nelly.

Bernie - not too keen, much prefer Bertie.
I like both Harry and Jack but they are both very popular (if that bothers you).

Flamingosnbears · 02/07/2018 16:39

Girls-
Florence - Lovely
Lila - Lovely
Maggie - sweet but as a nickname
Dolly - again as a nickname only
Sophia - Popular
Nelly - The Elephant but Nell is nice

Boys-
Bernie - Ok as a nickname
Harry - fine
Jack - Fine But John is better...

Chocolatecake12 · 02/07/2018 17:37

Sophia and jack are my favourites from your list.
Dolly just no! Can you imagine a solicitor called dolly? You are not just naming a baby but a future adult!

Phyllispontypandy · 02/07/2018 18:00

Love Dolly and Lila, not keen on Nelly.
Jack is sooooo overused I'm not a fan.

FawnDrench · 02/07/2018 19:39

I like Florence, Lila and Sophia.
Don't like Dolly at all
Other 2 not that keen.

Don't really like any of the boys names - prefer Jack if anything but it's far too popular imo.

MollyHuaCha · 02/07/2018 20:07

Girls-
Florence - love it
Lila - ok
Maggie - no
Dolly - no, Dolly Mixtures
Sophia - lovely
Nelly - no, Nellie is an elephant

Boys-
Bernie - no
Harry - ok
Jack- ok

dancingunicorns123 · 02/07/2018 20:07

I love Nelly!!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 02/07/2018 21:06

Love Maggie and Jack, great names.
Also like Sophia, Lila and Harry, not the others, sorry.

Trinnidad · 07/07/2018 22:47

Dolly is usually short for Dorothy (my sister’s name, but we call her Dot). It would work for Dorothea too. Nell/Nelly is usually short for Helen or Helen although another poster suggests Eleanor too. Have you thought about using the longer form but using your preferred shortening for every day?

Joeybee · 08/07/2018 00:55

You said 'don't hold back' so I'll give my honest opinion of these names:

Florence - Nice name, but very cutesy and a little too trendy now, it'll sound dated in a few years.
Lila - Prefer Lily. Lila is a bit boring.
Maggie - Lovely nickname for Marigold or Margaret, so I'd use one of those on bc and Maggie as the day-to-day name.
Dolly - OMG awful. Too cutesy. She'd never be taken seriously. It's a pets name.
Sophia - Love it and love this spelling, but ti's just too popular.
Nelly - Again as a nickname but not as a name in it's own right. You could call her 'Nell' on bc and use Nelly.

Bernie
Harry
Jack

Ozgirl01 · 08/07/2018 11:54

Florence - I like it, but it has gotten really popular very quickly, and so I worry that in several years it could feel dated.
Lila - like
Maggie - really like it, but prefer as a nickname
Dolly - it's ok, but I don't think it ages well. What about as a nickname for Dorothy, Delia, Dahlia, Theodora?
Sophia - it's nice enough, but soooo popular now
Nelly - I really like it, but as a nickname for Eleanor/Elinor or Penelope

Boys-
Bernie - not a fan.
Harry - Love, but too popular for me to use now
Jack - Like Harry, I love it, but too popular now

daisypond · 08/07/2018 15:57

Florence - nice. good name for a grown-up as well
Lila - bland and twee
Maggie - nice but not as a formal name. Short for Margaret etc, good.
Dolly - twee. Only if short for Dorothy/Dorothea, etc.
Sophia -nice, good name for a grown-up, but it is v popular.
Nelly - "not on your nelly"? Nell is better. And better if short for Eleanor/Helen, etc

Boys-
Bernie - I just think of the steakhouses... Bernard is OK.
Harry - I like it, but as a form of Henry, which is better.
Jack - like it, but it's heading into blandness. I prefer John, with Jack as nn.

Chuckle2 · 08/07/2018 16:01

Florence- classy name
Lila- makes me think of a cat!
Maggie- I prefer margarita/Margaret shortened to Maggie
Dolly- too nickname-y and girly
Sophia- ok but super popular
Nelly- not bad but can't imagine a professional with this name or Dolly

Boys-
Bernie- too cutesy and nickname-y
Harry- so overused!!
Jack- boring
