Meron? Or Myron?

Hi, what do you think of the names Meron and Myron? We both quite like these names but can’t become between them!

We also like Meir (pronounced Myer) but have another dc whose name ends in an ‘yah’ sound so wasn’t sure this goes?

Or any other suggestions? Middle name will be James. We do quite like ‘M’ names 😁 but not necessarily going to be ridgid about it.

Never heard of it. What's the origins of them?

Is it said like heron? Or meeron?

Do you read Harlan Coben? His main character is called Myron which I’d always associate it with.

Is Meron pronounced Meh-Ron or mee-Ron?

What about

Monty
Michael
Morton
Morley

Meron makes me think of melon, but I like Myron!

Userwhatevernumber · 30/06/2018 08:30

Yes Meron, as in Heron

Myron makes me think of an 85yo man living in New York, sorry!

Userwhatevernumber · 30/06/2018 08:39

We did consider Michael actually, it’s still on our list, DH wasn’t as keen.

Not a fan of Morton, I quite like Monty but just keep thinking Monty Python! Morley is a hospital not far from us...

Don’t mind the Harlon Coben association 🙂

I've never heard of them

kaytee87 · 30/06/2018 11:29

The closest I can think of is Mehran which is a Persian name.

kaytee87 · 30/06/2018 11:31

Apparently Meron is a Hebrew girls name

Joeybee · 30/06/2018 14:28

Not a fan of either name, they sound a little made up...also they both remind me of the word moron, which isn't great.

Sophronia · 30/06/2018 14:33

I know a Merrion which is quite similar.

iklboo · 30/06/2018 14:44

I know a Merrion too. Lovely name (lovely bloke).

Spam88 · 30/06/2018 15:19

They all sound made up. I wouldn't have pronounced Meron or Meir the way you intend, and Myron sounds like Byron.

slovenlys · 30/06/2018 15:22

Myron is fine.

Melon not so much

slovenlys · 30/06/2018 15:23

Sorry sorry I meant Meron Blush. But I don't like it BECAUSE it's so similar to melon

Thundersky · 30/06/2018 15:29

Michael or Byron are great names

florascotia2 · 30/06/2018 15:30

I don't like either of them, but Myron is certainly a real name. It's mostly associated with an ancient Greek sculptor.

Meron is said here to be a name from Eritrea: www.madote.com/2010/09/eritrean-names-and-their-meaning.html but I don't know how reliable the website is.

YesYesIKnow · 30/06/2018 15:34

I had an Uncle Myron from the Ukraine. I always thought it was a lovely, strong name

bluechameleon · 30/06/2018 15:49

The only Meron I've met was a girl, but it is unfamiliar enough that I think you could get away with it for either. I don't like Myron.
