Hello! We still do not knoe the gender of our baby. I always thought that i would want to knoe out of practicality but we both agreed that we want to wait until they are born. Only problem is we can't seem to find any boy names that we both like. Our list currently consists of just 3 names -

Leo/Leonardo? "Leo" doesn't seem complete.

Connor - This is currently our favourite atm. I don't know how common it is, but we really don't care about that anyway.

Sam/Samuel? I just think it's a nice name. We have far more girl names than boys names. No reason why tbh.

Anyway we would really appreciate your opinions on our names and which ones you like in order of preference, especially Connor. Thank you! :)

Sam(not Samuel)
Leo (Leonardo is cool too)
Connor last (school teacher family member always said they were naughty Blush!!)

SlimGin · 26/06/2018 20:56

I love Leonardo, second is Samuel, third favourite is Connor but still lovely name!

bebehen · 26/06/2018 20:58

I'm due any day now and still have 3 boys names to choose from ! We'll decide when we meet the baby (if its a boy!) as it's just too hard to decide now, we keep changing our minds

From your list - Connor would by my preferred

Congratulations - such an exciting time :)

Frosty66612 · 26/06/2018 21:05

I really like Leo (not keen on leonardo though).
Sam/Samuel is lovely too.
Connor is ok but my least favourite of the 3

BabloHoney · 26/06/2018 21:12

All 3 are lovely but Connor is especially fabulous Smile

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/06/2018 21:27

Connor is pretty dated to me.

Samuel/Sam is ok.

Leo is lovely.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/06/2018 21:29

I'd go with Connor.

TroubledLichen · 26/06/2018 21:33

I really dislike Connor, it seems really dated to me (sorry!)
Samuel/Sam is my favourite
Leo is nice too, I don’t think it needs to be short for Leonardo

YoucancallmeVal · 26/06/2018 21:33

No to connor.

Love Sam.
Really like Leonardo but if you are a (eg) Welsh family from Swansea it may sound a little weird...

LoveInTokyo · 26/06/2018 22:13

Samuel is my favourite. They’re all fine though.

Halfblindbunny · 26/06/2018 22:16

Leonardo
Samuel
Connor (if you have to but I really don't like it for no apparent reason)

RainbowsAndUnicorns23 · 26/06/2018 22:27

My favourite is Connor. Then Leo, not Leonard and lastly Sam, it's just too common for me - everyone knows at least 1 Sam.

AlyTab · 26/06/2018 22:42

Thank you for your feedback! Never knew that Connor is considered as "dated". Not a problem though. Maybe my judgement is clouded a bit since I've played Detroit become human. Great game! If you're into gaming that is :)

I like Conor if it's spelt Conor, as it originally is. With the double n is a surname and just looks wrong to me.

But I love Leo/Leonardo and also really like Sam/Samuel. So I like them all but my order of preference would be

Leo
Conor
Samuel

AlyTab · 27/06/2018 06:50

Nothing wrong with Conor but like you it just doesn't look right to me (vice versa). Connor just looks better to me.

Connor is lovely
I don't like Leonardo - reminds me of teenage mutant ninja turtles. I do like Leonard though.
Samuel is classic and I quite like it.

BikeRunSki · 27/06/2018 08:01

Sam/Samuel -in the 10 years I have had one, we have met surprisingly few. I like that it is a name you can’t make any assumptions about age etc.

I considered Isambard as a long version (I am a civil engineer) but DH was not brave enough.

MikeUniformMike · 27/06/2018 15:21

Leo/Leonardo? - Just Leo. Leonardo sounds a bit ridiculous.

Connor - Conor was very popular in the UK about 20 years ago. Dated.

Sam/Samuel? - I'd go with Samuel. I know 3 adult male Sams.

All three are nice but Connor seems dated in the UK. I'd probably go for Leo. Baby might look more like a Sam though.
I know one adult Leo in his 40s and he is just Leo.

BikeRunSki · 27/06/2018 16:07

Leon?

HJL2506 · 27/06/2018 16:50

I like all your names in this order:

Leo
Connor
Sam

AlyTab · 28/06/2018 22:48

Doubt anyone is still watching this thread but thank you for all your responses :)

I get that Leonardo might sound a little strange? In the UK, but idk I just don't know if Leo on it's own sounds "right" iykwim.

Thank you everyone! :)

Leo is the Latin word for lion! So it is a full word/name in its own right, it's not a shortening of another name (unless you want it to be).

TatianaLarina · 29/06/2018 10:57

Nothing wrong with Conor but like you it just doesn't look right to me (vice versa). Connor just looks better to me.

That’s because you’re used to seeing the surname Connor. Conor is the correct spelling of the Irish first name. If you’re going to access Irish culture it’s better to get it right in the U.K. Only in the US is the first name spelt with two ns.

Discotits · 29/06/2018 10:59

Leo. Great name.

Sam is a good sensible name.

Connor/Conor. Taught a fair few, we’re all ‘tricky’. Seemed an interesting coincidence.
