Have a son called Louis (Louie) and struggling with sibling names. Options are:

Hugo
Alexander (nn Xander)

Thoughts ?

I like both. Xander has the edge I think. Reminds me of Doctor Xand, which is a good thing!

sleepingdragons · 26/06/2018 09:02

(As in twins Dr Chris and Dr Xand, originally on CBBC e.g. Operation Ouch but now forging careers as adult TV presenters - don't think he calls himself Dr Xand on grown up stuff though, he uses his proper name Dr Xand van Tulleken.)

Wellthisunexpected · 26/06/2018 09:07

Alexander. Louis and Hugo is a bit try hard in my opinion, though I like them separately.

happytobemrsg · 26/06/2018 09:08

Agree with pp I prefer Alexander. Great nn

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/06/2018 09:21

I'm not a fan of Xander.
I'd pick Hugo, what about Jasper?

padfootprongs · 26/06/2018 11:56

I love all but Louie and Huey are Donald ducks nephews - Louis and Hugo could be a bit close to that? I have a Louis myself so have overthought these things!! Great names though

ShaunaKeenan · 26/06/2018 12:40

I feel like if I had a third child Hugo would be fine but I see the point about Louie and Huey, don't know if I could deal with that until the 3rd came along.

Alexander, definitely.

DeckSofa · 26/06/2018 13:01

Alexander

AdaColeman · 26/06/2018 13:06

Hugo!

starkid · 26/06/2018 16:51

Alexander!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/06/2018 16:53

Alexander, but although you might call him Xander at home, he’ll probably get Alex a lot.

MariaMadita · 26/06/2018 17:02

Alexander. Classy, timeless, international, versatile...

Jj2431 · 26/06/2018 22:29

Alexander. Hate Hugo sorry.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 26/06/2018 22:32

Alexander. (Though I really dislike the recent trend for 'Xander').

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/06/2018 22:58

Xander isn’t that recent, it was in the running for our now 22 year old.

GirlGang89 · 26/06/2018 23:04

My dogs called Hugo... only cos I’ve got girls! Love the name for a boy. X

I prefer Alexander nn Xander. Sasha is a lovely nickname for Alexander too, although I suppose fairly brave in the UK as a lot of people assume it's a girls' name.

Snipples · 27/06/2018 12:00

I prefer Alexander. Xander is a great NN

letsallhaveanap · 27/06/2018 12:02

both lovely but prefer Hugo

FizzyGreenWater · 27/06/2018 12:10

Don't have Alexander unless you are prepared for him to ultimately be Alex. He might choose that for himself, Xander-childhood or not. Xander's quite marmite! I like it, but if he doesn't he'll be Alex by 9.

JessambardKingdomBrunel · 27/06/2018 13:01

Louis and Alexander are Prince George's middle names!

JessambardKingdomBrunel · 27/06/2018 13:02

And yes, I doubt you'll be able to force the Xander nickname, so if you're not happy for him to be known as Alex, then don't use it.
