Alfie or Alfred?

Definitely set on the name, he will be named after my great grandfather Alfred. He was always known as Alfie in the Navy before he passed.

Second name is also after my grandfather John. He is just John, not shorted for anything.

Can't decide on whether we should call him Alfie John or Alfred John. I plan along with family to call him Alfie or Alf.

Any opinions appreciated, thanks.

Alfred gives more options as he grows up.

Alfred John is a fine name.

Alfie on its own is too cutesy.

Definitely Alfred, gives him lots of options when he's older other than Alfie. Could be shortened to Al or Fred/Freddie too.

Alfred John is lovely.

Alfred

My DC are both known by the shortened versions of their names & now they're adults, they often prefer to use their formal name on paperwork.

Definitely Alfred, it’s lovely.

RavenWings · 26/06/2018 09:47

Alfred. Much more mature, not cutesy and he can still be nicknamed Alfie. Alfie by itself is very limiting.

Babbaganoush · 26/06/2018 09:57

Alfred. It will age better and gives so many more options for nicknames (Alfie being the most obvious). Lovely name Smile

Alfred shortened to Alfie. Alfred is on my list too. I love Alf as a nn too

MariaMadita · 27/06/2018 06:10

Alfred John.

Definitely Alfred.

Alfie by itself is far too cutesy, and would be an awful name for an adult.

Alfie by itself also makes me think of Alfie Evans, not exactly the most positive of connotations...
