Hi all,

I have a DS called Alexander and I'm due my second DS in a few weeks. DH is Irish and I'm English. I thought it would be nice to have a Irish name for DS. How would you perceive 2 brothers, one with a Anglican-type name and the other with a Irish name? A friend joked with me saying that we already have our favourites but it now has me wondering if that is what people will think? Or if it would be odd at all?

Alexander and Liam, Anthony, Patrick, Fionn, Ronan, Cormac etc? I agree with the pp, that wouldn't be strange at all imo.

Alexander and Pádraig, Uilleag, Aonghus etc? Maybe a bit unusual. But there wouldn't be anything wrong with that either...

It depends on whether it's actually an Irish name or an English name popular in Ireland. Give us some examples!!!

Mine have one irish name that has entered the mainstream in UK/US, one very unusual old Irish name - unusual even in Ireland - and one classic English name. No one comments.

Nice combination imo.

The Killian version is used in Germany (because Saint Cillian established a monastery there wayyyy back) so the name is a bit more international and not just Irish. Also, Alexander is a Greek name but found everywhere. So you can respond to people making remarks about choosing favourites.
