Stuck on baby name for second son

Hi ladies!

I am 21 weeks pregnant with out 2nd son and not having an awful lot of luck with names.

Our little boy is called Stanley. As it stands I'm torn between Sidney and Ellis. I feel that Sidney may be too similar, but Ellis may be too modern to go with it. These are the only 2 names we love at the moment and are names we have loved for years.

Every time I hear a little boy being called one of these names I smile and prefer that name, until I hear the other and think the same!
Any help or inspiration would be appreciated:) x

Ps our boys will be 22 months apart if that helps.

How about Spencer?...

MsJolly · 15/06/2018 09:01

Love Elliot!

HJL2506 · 15/06/2018 09:03

Not sure on those names but I do appreciate help. I'm thinking

Sidney Ellis James

Or

Ellis Sidney James

I would use Arthur tbh. It sounds fab with Stanley. Ellis is a bit weak sounding to me.

HJL2506 · 15/06/2018 09:15

Arthur is a lovely name but it's already my eldest sons middle name.

I know it's Stanley's middle name OP but I would use it in your shoes. I don't think it matters. Arthur is great.

Oh I do like Jasper!

Yay Grin
I love Jasper too. Have always kicked myself for not using it!

EveMoneypenny · 15/06/2018 09:24

I prefer Ellis to Sidney, but I've only ever met a female Ellis. I know you're not really looking for other name suggestions but I love the name Frank and I think it goes well with Stanley!

HJL2506 · 15/06/2018 09:29

Jasper is another one thrown in the the mix now haha!

Yes I used to work with a female Ellis but I prefer it for a boy.

I do like Frankie but feel it has got quite popular.

The thing is I know my husband will let me decide but I feel it should be a joint descision. Which is made harder as he likes them all but prefers Sidney.

Save Sidney for a girl!

HJL2506 · 15/06/2018 09:43

I'm not as keen on Sidney for a girl :(

I prefer Ellis as a name, regardless... it's a lovely choice.

Sidney wouldn't be an option for me with a Stanley. Perhaps maybe if they are known as Sid and Stan you could just get away with it. If your heart is set on Sidney, is that a compromise you can start now with your Stan? Sidney and Stanley in full is just too close... And what on earth could you name a 3rd to follow those two?

Ellis gives you more freedom and more options, his own initial and a clear sound when shouted across the park.

HJL2506 · 15/06/2018 10:21

I really dont like just Stan. It is very similar. It's tough because if I knew we would have 3 boys I'd be sorted. We already have a girls name. But I want to choose the best incase we don't have anymore boys x

FartnissEverbeans · 17/06/2018 17:39

We wouldn't ever call the boys Sid and Stan and we will correct people if they do haha.

There's no way they can avoid those nicknames, especially once hey become teenagers and beyond. I quite like the nicknames actually.

I like Ellis best though. It's much cooler than Sidney, which I think is a bit wet (sorry!). Jasper is great too, and really unusual.

JaretsGirlfren · 17/06/2018 17:47

I like Sidney better buuuut I like Ellis better with Stanley helpful

HJL2506 · 17/06/2018 17:52

I would always correct people whatever age they are. I don't mind Sid so much, it's Stan I don't.

No that's ok everybody's taste is different and we love them both and think they are lovely names, it's just tough choosing which one to go for out of those 2. :)

I wouldn't go for siblings with the same initial so that rules Sidney out for me.
I do like Ellis but not sure it goes with Stanley.
Jasper is ok.

Sorry for any repeats:

Jasper.

NapQueen · 17/06/2018 22:18

Elliot?

Glumglowworm · 17/06/2018 22:23

I much prefer Ellis as a name and I also think Stanley and Sidney are too similar for siblings

Baubletrouble43 · 17/06/2018 22:38

I like Ellis. Also like Elliot.

Joeybee · 18/06/2018 00:36

Awwww I'm 29 weeks and planning on calling my boy Stanley. How do you find this name to be received by people?

I think Ellis works fine with Stanley, it's not too modern. In-fact Ellis was a name around when Stanley was popular anyway. Sidney is lovely....but I think you are right, it's too similar. Maybe you could use Sidney as a middle name though?

HJL2506 · 18/06/2018 01:44

Thanks for the suggestions but still not keen on those other names. It's my husband preferring Sidney more, I love them both the same. So tough.

@Joeybee
Everybody I've met have said they love Stanleys name. Nobody has told me otherwise although I have been told Sidney is old fashioned, but Stanley is just as old fashioned! I love old fashioned names. Our Stanley is a proper boys boy (he's got a big personality and is a boys boy) and his name suits him perfectly. I think it's a lovely choice for you :) he was always either going to be Stanley or Sidney.
