Just as the titles says really, is Penelope becoming to popular?
What’s everyone’s opinions on this name? I like that you have various nicknames

It was DH's favourite. I was worried it was a bit Kardashian. We called her Felicity instead.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 14/06/2018 15:18

I don’t think it’s Kardashiany, I think it’s a surprising choice for a Kardsashian baby. Mason & Penelope are pretty average names, it’s jusy Reign that is ‘Kardashiany’ out of Kourtney’s kids I’d say 😄 #overinvested

I really like the name. Love nn Nel, but penny is fine and the full name sounds lovely too. Not snobby and not ten a penny. Ideal!

bridgetreilly · 14/06/2018 15:24

No, it isn't.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 14/06/2018 15:31

Classic name. I don't know any babies or toddlers called this.

MikeUniformMike · 14/06/2018 15:44

The overall popularity isn't likely to be an issue, it's more a question of how many in the same age group and social circle.
I know about 5 of different age groups.
Prefer Penny to Nel. Don't use if you intend relocating to France.

Be prepared for foreign immigration officers and hotel receptionists to struggle. Most of them thinks it rhymes with antelope Grin

MikeUniformMike · 14/06/2018 15:55

Is Antelope a girl's name and is it pronounced Ant-el-oh-pee. I rather like it. Could be Tel for short.

MikeUniformMike · 14/06/2018 15:56

Is it greek?

MikeUniformMike · 14/06/2018 15:56

Think I'm thinking of Antigone.

ZebraKid71 · 14/06/2018 16:57

It's spoken about a lot but I haven't actually met any in real life. I think it's a great name.

Spidermansthong · 14/06/2018 17:13

It was the 63rd most popular name in 2016 and is gradually rising. I'm not a fan of it to be honest but it's your child!

Glumglowworm · 14/06/2018 19:35

I think it’s rising

I used to know a child who would now be about 20 who was Penny, I know a four year old Penelope and a baby Penelope as well

HeyDolly · 14/06/2018 19:38

I don’t think it’s overused/too popular. I don’t think I’ve ever met any! I quite like it.

daisypond · 14/06/2018 19:47

I like it. I don't know any but I think it's rising in popularity.

RedDwarves · 14/06/2018 22:47

It had a jump in popularity a couple of years back, in line with the Kardashian baby.

It's still not overly popular, but it is rising. It is no. 47 where I live, and it wasn't even in the top 100 a few years back.

LoveInTokyo · 16/06/2018 10:29

I love it but live in France where it is pronounced “Penneh-lop”. Awful.

Opposite problem with Pauline, which is beautiful in French but ugly and dated in English.

Octopeppa · 16/06/2018 10:40

I've only ever met two Penelope's. They'd be in their 40s and 70s by now.

sydenhamhiller · 16/06/2018 10:43

I loved Penelope (Nell) for DC3, but DH used his veto for that. Was going with Juliet, and then she turned up 9 lb 13, and we called her something else entirely! (The midwife called her hunka chunka 😂)

Just reading ‘middlesex’ by Jeffrey Eugenides again, and character is called Calliope, Callie, for short. If there was a dc4 I would go for this, I love it. (Calliope was Ancient Greek muse of epic poetry - but don’t let that put you off 😉.)

If you like it, then pick Penelope - names are such a personal thing. X

SilkyDrawers · 16/06/2018 11:53

It’s definitely rising fast, I know two under 5.

CristalTipps · 16/06/2018 12:35

How about Persephone?
