Autumn - ok if actually born in autumn, don't like it hugely
September - awful
Fuchsia - it just looks angry written down to me, reminds me of "Fuhrer"
Lux - awful
Iolanthe - fine if you're Greek, if not then pretentious and awful
Sylvia - old lady name, but I actually quite like it. Dd knows a Sylvia (she's a Jehovah's Witness)
Iseult - awful, what's wrong with Isabel? Why saddle your child with such a weird name just because YOU want to be different/inventive?
Magdalena - Ok, Magda or Lena would be cute nicknames
Svetlana - just why? I'm presuming your child is going to be British, not Russian. And there are WAY nicer Russian names out there that actually work in English
Ariadne - quite nice, though Arianne/Ariana would allow her to blend in more if she wants to. You have no idea if she's going to be the sort of kid who WANTS to stand out
Topaz - awful. You're not giving her a chance to be a normal adult. Have you ever met a barrister or an accountant called Topaz? It doesn't even have any good nicknames
Astrid - Weird, and no good nicknames. Striddie is horrific.

Husband likes:
Daisy - nice
Sapphire - hideous
Posy - ok for a five year old, not for a thirty year old
Aurora - nice
Ingrid - ok, but no good nicknames - Griddie? It's very ugly

We both like:
Isolde - not too bad
Nico - very weird full name for a girl. Why not Nicola, and then you could call her Nico, but she'd have the option of a normal name if she wants one
Leonora - very pretty

blinkineckmum · 15/06/2018 16:11

I like Magdalena and Ariadne.
I really dislike all the others.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 15/06/2018 16:28

Posy, Aurora nn Rory and Leonora are lovely, don't like the others.

WrideD · 15/06/2018 17:10

Ariadne always reminds me of spiders.. arachnid? So yeah it's a shame cos it's quite cute. From your list, I kinda only like Sylvia.. if you like proper nouns though, I used to work with a girl called Tuesday and always thought that was kinda cute.

LoveInTokyo · 16/06/2018 10:56

Autumn - not keen, especially for a summer baby
September - no
Fuschia - hard to spell and not very nice
Lux - nope
Iolanthe - reminds me of fat old ladies dressed up as fairies in an am dram production of Gilbert & Sullivan
Sylvia - yes
Iseult - meh... prefer Isolde
Magdalena - will become Maggie (which I quite like)
Svetlana - porn star from Eastern Europe
Ariadne - OK
Topaz - not keen
Astrid - nice

Husband likes:
Daisy - boring
Sapphire - OK
Posy - only if short for Josephine
Aurora - meh
Ingrid - OK

We both like:
Isolde - nice
Nico - this is a boy’s name
Leonora - lovely

Out of your list, Leonora by a mile.

Some other suggestions:

Penelope
Persephone
Estelle
Pearl
Hermione
Marguerite
Flora

letsallhaveanap · 16/06/2018 11:36

I love Flora.. but everyone will say its butter like they are saying Lux is a soap!

I think its between Isolde and Leonora..

But we have now also introduced Ada and Celeste!

LoveInTokyo · 16/06/2018 12:16

You might get a few butter comments but at least no one can deny that Flora is a girl’s name!

Flamingosnbears · 16/06/2018 12:18

Svetlana (nn Lana) and Sapphire stand out of your lists to me, how about Sapphira? Ingrid is sweet as well.

Flamingosnbears · 16/06/2018 12:19

Now Celeste is a lovely name, good choice.

letsallhaveanap · 16/06/2018 12:25

well im glad someone likes Svetlana, I think its so pretty!

OP posts:
Cosmoa · 16/06/2018 12:25

Celeste is a winner!

Cosmoa · 16/06/2018 12:27

Svetlana is very pretty buy it's just very Russian sounding. If you don't have any connection it's a bit odd. I usually wouldn't say that about a name but I agree that there are other pretty Russian names that would work better in the UK (assuming your British) like Katya or Anastasia which aren't as boldly Russian.

Flamingosnbears · 16/06/2018 14:34

You might like a short form of Svetlana - Sveta?...

letsallhaveanap · 16/06/2018 14:59

lol I think Anastasia is pretty but is quite boldly Russian!! Plus: 50 shades of Grey... no one wants that link

I love the NN Lana (could also be for Iolanthe?) and I liked that name because I heard it in the Joanna Newsom song which is a really pretty song. Also a complete earworm so every time I try and think of names I just hear 'Svetlana sucks lemons across from me'!!!

From your list I like Sylvia and Ariadne. Magdalena is OK.
From your dh's list I like Ingrid. Daisy and Posy are OK but they won't 'grow' well.
From your shared list I like Isolde (but prefer Isolda) and love Leonora - best of the whole bunch, with Sylvia a close second. Please don't call her Nico.

ReginaBlitzkreig · 16/06/2018 15:17

My suggestions:

Xanthe
Ianthe
Rosalie
Isadora
Carina

Cosmoa · 16/06/2018 16:05

I love Joanna Newsom 😊

Cosmoa · 16/06/2018 16:12

Oh and I agree Anastasia is an obvious Russian name but it's not as harsh imo. And I've never seen 50 shades!
