Its nice, but not as nice as the overlooked Matthew imo. Plus i think he'd be correcting pronounciation his entire life. He'll probably end up as Matt so i think stick with the beautiful name Matthew

My high school bf was Matthias, and he was Dutch. I’ve since met other guys through work who share the name, but only Dutch and German.

As someone with an unusual pronunciation/spelling of a more common first name, you either take a confrontational approach and spend life correcting others (with the odd idiot who tries to tell you how to say your own name), or you accept your name being mangled (with the occasional kind person who actually asks how it should be said). I’ve adopted both approaches at various stages in my life.

I love Matthias. Have done ever since I visited thecMatthias Church in Budapest. It's utterly gorgeous and he can be Matt for short.

I have a Matthias, it's a beautiful name. We pronounce it MAH-tee-us and chose it because it fits in with both our family's languages/cultures.

I think a lot of British people would probably say ma-THIGH-us, which I don't like at all, but where we live everyone uses the same pronunciation as us.

In the UK I think it might be a slightly annoying name to have as I guarantee you whichever pronunciation you favour, a lot of people will say it some other way. If we lived in the UK I probably would have favoured Matthew over Matthias. You don't say where you live, though.
