Hi all,
Just wondering what you thought of this name. Does it go with sister Camille? Thanks. Smile

no, it is the name of my shower wash.

MikeUniformMike · 08/06/2018 19:52

It's a no from me. Looks too much like Florist, Florid and Doris. Flora is nicer.

cordeliae · 08/06/2018 19:52

Also, what do you think of Beatrice?

Sorry, didn't see messages! Thank you all.

Floris. No.

Beatrice. Yes.

Smashpumpkin · 08/06/2018 19:53

Love Beatrice!

Canshopwillshop · 08/06/2018 19:53

I love Beatrice

pimmsandmilk · 08/06/2018 19:54

Were you thinking for a boy? Where I'm from it is a boy's name.

I like it but I think it probably doesn't work brilliantly in English.

HeyDolly · 08/06/2018 19:54

I like Beatrice. Floris just looks and sounds too much like Florist imo. Florence is nice though.

MikeUniformMike · 08/06/2018 19:55

Beatrice is much nicer.

luxurybiscuit · 08/06/2018 19:56

Love Beatrice, especially when shortened to Bea. Floris is awful though - looks like you left the t off florist or perhaps a flouride teeth treatment!?

cordeliae · 08/06/2018 19:56

pimmsandmilk

Yes, Floris for a boy and Beatrice for a girl.

villainousbroodmare · 08/06/2018 19:57

Flora and Florence both nice and prefer them to Beatrice. Floris is a no from me.

Sessy19 · 08/06/2018 19:58

Florid is a masculine name in Scandinavia and Holland, so if you were using it for a girl (I admit it’s more feminine sounding in the UK), then it might be considered a bit mistaken....it is also a brand name for a high end fragrance range!

It’s pretty but does have a bit of a Flora-Doris mash-up ring to it imo

cordeliae · 08/06/2018 19:58

HeyDolly

Florence is lovely, worried it's a bit too popular?

OP posts:
Jammycustard · 08/06/2018 20:14

Ah, Floris for a boy. Sorry, I’ve never heard it.

HeyDolly · 08/06/2018 20:20

OP, Florence seems really popular on MN but I’ve yet to meet any young ones in real life at any of the toddler classes etc that I go to and there’s none at my DC’s school. Maybe it depends on region

AnyaMoondial · 08/06/2018 20:23

Beatrice is beautiful. Florence is nice too but not as brilliant for some reason.

BBCK · 08/06/2018 20:26

Try Florian (French)

stargirl1701 · 08/06/2018 20:29

Floris is a publishing house in Edinburgh, I think.

TenuedeNimes · 08/06/2018 20:33

Very Dutch. I know one but I don’t like him, which is probably why I don’t like the name!

I think he’d get called ’Florris’ to rhyme with
Doris in the UK, while the actual sound is more like Floor-iss, and I do think ‘Florris’ sounds horrid. Sorry to say that.

HeyDolly · 08/06/2018 20:36

Sorry, didn’t realise Floris is a boys name. Florian as a PP suggested is better imo

daisypond · 08/06/2018 20:39

Florian is better than Floris for a boy. I do like it, but I'm not sure I'd use it. I think the "floral" vibe would put me off it for a boy, I'm afraid. Fabian? Beatrice is fabulous for a girl.

LeeMiller · 08/06/2018 20:40

Flora, Florinda (Italian), Fleur

Loris (Swiss/Italian), Florian

Puremince · 09/06/2018 07:09

I'd think of the publishing firm, who publish some great children's books. I think it's too unusual to work as a boy's name here.
