Adelaide not Adalaide. Not keen.
Gabriel - popular but will get shortened to Gay or Gabe. Not keen.

CorianderSnell · 03/06/2018 12:46

I love them both, but would spell Adelaide. Considered Gabriel for dc3, and still sometimes wish we had gone for it. It felt just a little ‘frilly’ for me to use, and also felt a little strange using a name with such a strong connection to the Bible when I have no religious background or ties.

I know of one child Gabriel but never met an Adelaide

MiniDoofa · 03/06/2018 12:47

It’s Adelaide. Don’t mind it. Not sure about Gabriel.

villainousbroodmare · 03/06/2018 12:50

Adelaide for sure. Gabriel is nice too but I wouldn't much like Gabe as a shortening and think it would be inevitable.

LadyPeacock · 03/06/2018 12:57

I think I would go for two angel names. So Gabriel and:

Michaela
Micah
Dina
Ariel

LadyPeacock · 03/06/2018 13:00

Or change the Gabriel to Gabriella and have:

Michael
Nathaniel (Angel of fire- that is cool)
Raphael

Jj2431 · 03/06/2018 13:00

Not keen on Adelaide as that's a place. Prefer Adeline. LOVE Gabriel. It's on our list.

daisypond · 03/06/2018 13:02

Adelaide, not Adalaide. but I'm not keen. I just think of the Australian city. I really like Gabriel.

luxurybiscuit · 03/06/2018 13:04

Definitely not the mis-spelt version with an 'a' but it is OK, does Adelaide have a special connection for you (like the baby being conceived there or you meeting there etc?), always seems odd to me when people call their kids place names (India, Paris, Atlanta etc) when there is no connection or they haven't even been there?!

I prefer Adeline too & Gabe is lovely.

luxurybiscuit · 03/06/2018 13:05

'misspelt'. Ah the irony!

CorianderSnell · 03/06/2018 13:11

Adelaide the place was named after a person! It’s a pretty old name

bridgetreilly · 03/06/2018 13:38

Adelaide's a lovely name, and it's definitely a girl's name which happens to have a place named after it, not the other way round. I'm not a fan of Gabriel, though.

Winchester13 · 03/06/2018 13:47

The name can be spelt both ways. Oo I love Raphael too

My cousin lives in Adelaide. But I liked the name Calamity Jane haha

Winchester13 · 03/06/2018 13:49

The name from calamity jane that was supposed to say!

OP posts:
autumndreaming · 03/06/2018 16:24

Pretty sure the Calamity Jane character is 'Adelaid Adams'

Winchester13 · 03/06/2018 16:40

Yes you’re right haha

Sophronia · 03/06/2018 16:49

I like both, but prefer Adelaide spelled this way.

Movablefeast · 03/06/2018 16:54

My 17 yr old daughter has a friend called Adelaide, she ALWAYS goes by Addie and hates the long version if her name.

Gabriel - Gabe is a great name. Historic and masculine.

Winchester13 · 03/06/2018 17:04

I love Addie as a nickname

OP posts:
Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/06/2018 17:35

Adelaide (Addie), is lovely.
Sorry, I don't like Gabriel.

TatianaLarina · 03/06/2018 18:16

Love Gabriel and Raphael (and also Rapahaela). Don’t like Adelaide.

TatianaLarina · 03/06/2018 18:16

Raphaela ^

HawaiianPartyBunker · 03/06/2018 18:18

I have a Gabriel and a Raphael - we always get loads of compliments about their names!

TatianaLarina · 03/06/2018 18:19

Great names Hawaiian, congrats!
