New girl names to add to list

We are expecting a little girl in a few months and already like Erin and Adriana as names but would like to add a few more to our list. DH has Irish heritage and I’m European. DS is Ryan. What are your thoughts on the names below:
Aoife
Ailsa
Alina
Ciara (how would you pronounce it?)
Elinor
Elise
Layla
Selena

Thank you!

Erin and Adriana are both very nice. Here's my opinion on the others.

Aoife- I do love this
Ailsa- love
Alina- not keen
Ciara (how would you pronounce it?)- I'd say it Care-a. I like it.
Elinor- prefer Eleanor and love Eleanor.
Elise- so so. Nice enough but there's better on your list.
Layla- I like this.
Selena- don't like.

catalinablue · 31/05/2018 12:33

Don't really like Erin but Adriana is beautiful. I love Elise too, we considered the name for DD. Layla, Selena and Ciara (pronounced key-ra, like Keira) are nice also. :)

Flamingosnbears · 31/05/2018 12:46

Erin is sweet, you might like Adrienne or Selene?...

MaybeyBaybey · 31/05/2018 12:55

Aoife: I like it but I tend to prefer more international/Euro names.
Ailsa: nice.
Alina: really pretty.
Ciara (how would you pronounce it?): I'd probably mumble something. I used to say Keira/Kee-ruh but then met someone that pronounced their name like See-aruh. And I've recently encountered the kee-uh-ruh (like Chiara) pronunciation...
Elinor: Pretty. But many might call her Eleanor.
Elise: lovely!
Layla: boring
Selena: beautiful!

TatianaLarina · 31/05/2018 13:55

I think the names that work best with dual heritage are:

Alina
Ciara (its pronounced Keira) unless you go for the Italian Chiara which is pronounced Key ar a
Elise
Selena

SquidgyMcPidgy · 31/05/2018 19:00

Hm I’d like Ciara pronounced Kee-ah-ra rather than Key-rah so maybe this is off the list.
DH has said he likes Alina so wondered if people have any particular thoughts on this name..? Any associations I might be missing..? Thank you again!

Just spell it Chiara then the Italian way.

Alina is pretty.

MaybeyBaybey · 31/05/2018 19:37

Kee-uh-ru / Keeah-ruh is how you'd pronounce Chiara.

It's a really lovely name imo.

bridgetreilly · 31/05/2018 21:23

Elinor and Elise are my favourites from your list. I wouldn't be sure how to pronounce Alina - Aleenah or Alinnah?

SquidgyMcPidgy · 01/06/2018 13:35

@bridgetreilly I’d say it Alinnah but not too bothered if others say Aleenah. I love the nickname Ally too.

Elise.

Sounds nice with Ryan too.

Andthatsthat · 01/06/2018 19:20

Aoife or Elise I love.

Elinor I like. But spelt Eleanor.

The others aren’t for me.

daisypond · 01/06/2018 19:56

I really like Selena. Elinor is lovely too. And I like Elise. They're my top three.

mykingdomforallama · 01/06/2018 20:23

Ciara!

I am slightly biased though Grin And as others have said, pronunciation has proved tricky, mine is the Irish way - pronounced the same as Keira, but she gets Chiara all the time... or Clara... or weirdly, Si-eh-ra... apparently some singer pronounces it that way, I am not cool enough to know!

Thistles24 · 01/06/2018 22:26

Ailsa!! I love it, but it's too similar to (but much nicer than ) my own name.

MatildaLovesBooks · 01/06/2018 23:14

Erin is by far my favourite. Not keen on any of the others.

FASH84 · 03/06/2018 16:06

Aoife is lovely and if i could claim any recent Irish heritage it would be on my list

LoveInTokyo · 03/06/2018 16:39

I like Ciara pronounced like Keira.
