@OrdinaryGirl

I don't know what that is but based on your OTT reaction in going to assume serial killer or something along those lines.

I think it's just Cato as in "the Roman name Cato" to be honest. Parents aren't British if that helps.

Cosmoa · 30/05/2018 10:31

@BellMcEnd nice!! I doubt she will meet many (or any) people with her name in life.. But it's cool to know there are a few about Smile her middle name is Soraya so I called her Eska Raya (Sunshine) as a cute nn Grin

IVFlytrap if you're an old gimmer like me and you grew up in the UK and watched telly, the name Cato is synonymous with the famous Inspector Clouseau sidekick who constantly ambushes him to keep his reflexes fast and you most likely wouldn't ever have heard of anyone else with the name. So it's funny! Some names are funny to some people! (Remember that episode of The It Crowd when Jen dumps her boyfriend because he's called Peter File and she tries to cope with it but just can't.)

To a lot of people, it would be like calling your kid Dangermouse or Twirlywoo and then getting all miffed when people laughed.

But I do accept that a) time moves on and most people under 30 will have no idea who Cato the character is, and b) other cultures will not have the same reference points, so I will be mindful in future of my 'OTT' reactions.

Haha calling a kid Cato is hardly the same thing! I've never heard of a character called Cato anyway. I think it's an awesome name and can't be compared to 'dangermouse'... That's a bit far fetched.

Astrid!

Constantlurker · 30/05/2018 16:57

Wilfred. Wilf is the CUTEST nickname!

Buxbaum · 01/06/2018 07:49

Dd2 was going to be Ptolomy

Is that a typo? Ptolemy is most definitely a boys’ name.

MessyBun247 · 01/06/2018 07:52

Lettice? Really??!! Most of these names are awful!

BrutusMcDogface · 01/06/2018 07:56

I have never heard of some of these names! I opened the thread thinking it might give me some good ideas for my impending baby boy, but.....um....nope! Grin

Bananarama12 · 01/06/2018 07:59

cheshiremama89 · 01/06/2018 08:04

Overhead someone introducing their baby Ramona the other day. Love that name, but my husband wasn't keen on it, so it's nice to hear someone else using it in real life.

happytobemrsg · 01/06/2018 08:09

Xanthe- never heard of it before Neighbours. I love it

AlbertaSimmons · 01/06/2018 08:11

Vesper, as in Lind from James Bond.

BrutusMcDogface · 01/06/2018 08:18
