For a boy. It’s a Hebrew name, like that it’s quite unusual but not too ‘out there’ Thoughts?

Ive never heard of this name before but I really like it, its unusual but in a good way.

Justmuddlingalong · 27/05/2018 11:36

I ♥️ it. And have one of my own.

briarrabbit · 27/05/2018 11:44

What were reactions like when you announced it @just if you don’t mind me asking? Does it get misheard as Josh a lot?

Kraggle · 27/05/2018 11:45

I like it. It just makes me think of Joss Wheadon, which makes me think of Buffy, which makes me happy!

Justmuddlingalong · 27/05/2018 11:48

Mine's in his 20s, but it was never really mistaken for Josh. Family and friends loved it. I still love it and am glad I used it. It's unusual but not too out there, as you said. Go for it. Grin

MaybeBabey · 27/05/2018 11:49

It's nice but feels a bit incomplete to me.
Jocelyn?

briarrabbit · 27/05/2018 11:50

Thank you! The more I think about it the more I think it could be the one!

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/05/2018 11:51

Lovely, make me think of the wonderful actor Joss Auckland.

briarrabbit · 27/05/2018 11:51

Maybe I think Jocelyn is a girls name?

OP posts:
JennyHolzersGhost · 27/05/2018 11:53

It’s short for Joseph, isn’t it ? Traditionally popular in Cumbria. Like Joss Naylor.

WyldDucks · 27/05/2018 11:54

I love it

Hadn’t occurred to be that it may be unisex...but then there is Joss Stone.

I think Jocelyn is a girls name?

Is it? The only Jocelyn I know is male.

WTFsMyUserName · 27/05/2018 12:07

In my head it's s girl's name because of Joss Stone.

briarrabbit · 27/05/2018 12:08

Maybe I guess it’s unisex, I know two female Jocelyns though so had no idea it could be used for men too.

BikeRunSki · 27/05/2018 12:10

I work with one. He’s in his 30s. Love it. He’s actually Joshua, but never uses it.

MaybeBabey · 27/05/2018 12:11

briar

Probably. :)

Joyce is a similar name imo.

Joss is apparently a short form of Jocelyn according to google.

HeyDolly · 27/05/2018 12:12

I do like it but admit my first thoughts are stick or Stone.

starsinyourpies · 27/05/2018 12:12

Jocelyn is definitely a boys name too, I have met a (vair posh) one.

daisypond · 27/05/2018 12:26

I rather like it. Jocelyn is a unisex name and I might assume it was short for that - I'd probably assume a girl more than a boy.

briarrabbit · 27/05/2018 12:38

Hmm I do use Joss sticks. Wonder how long it would take for someone to pick up on that.

OP posts:
IHeartKingThistle · 27/05/2018 12:40

In 17 years I've only taught one, and he was lovely. He'd be in his 20s now - maybe it was @Justmuddlingalong's one!

AyeWhySwim · 27/05/2018 12:49

We know a little Joss - love it. He’s a boy Smile

LaundryHepburn · 27/05/2018 13:06

In Hebrew there's no letter J so it's Yos or Yossi - short for Yosef (Joseph).
