Penny or Penelope

So DP and I have decided on a girls name we’ve got no idea on a Boys name yet but we will cross that bridge later lol
We love Penny, and that is fine, but I always wanted to go for Penelope, and DP always wanted an Ella, I think we could go for Penelope and still nn ella or Penny, I also think it’s lovely to have a proper name not just a nn as your full name. Middle name would be Louise Or Lorraine

OP posts:

Penelope is a lovely name, and both of those middle names would sound nice alongside Penelope imo. I agree that its nice for her to have a full name, rather than simply Penny, giving her more options as she gets older.

However, I do not think Ella is really possible as a nickname for Penelope at all. Nell or Nelly would work, maybe even Elle (though that is pushing it). Ella is just too much of a stretch. You could maybe go for Penelope Ella Louise/Penelope Ella Lorraine? Or use the name for a future daughter/pet even?

Penelope Louise sounds better than Ella Louise.
Lorraine seems a bit dated.
I don't see Ella working as a short version of Penelope.
Penny is fine.

Penelope is very nice and Penny is fine as a short form - although there is something about the small value of the coin that perhaps might put me off using it, like it's not worth much. I prefer Nell to Ella and I think it works better as a short form.

I’d go Penelope on BC with Penny as a nn.

Ella as a nn for Penelope is a v tenuous link

noideawithboysnames · 26/05/2018 14:51

Nella is a good diminutive...could DP be swayed by that?

Mollie85 · 26/05/2018 14:56

Penelope Louise is fantastic OP.
Or Penelope Ella so you both get your name? Smile

Empoweredwomenempowerwomem · 26/05/2018 18:12

DP is very much up for Nella
But Penelope Charlotte Louise single syllable very British surname, is now our final name for a little girl.

Now to start on the boys list. 🤷‍♀️

Penelope Charlotte Louise is really nice imo.

DramaAlpaca · 26/05/2018 19:47

Oh I like that OP.

I know a Penelope who gets called Poppy.
