Two middle names?

We are (95%!) decided on the name Grace for our little girl due in July.

DH has a family tradition where all female members of his family have the middle name Elizabeth. I think it goes nicely with Grace but I’m not sure on the name itself. I quite like Polly as a middle name and some of my family members have the name too.

What do you think of:

Grace Elizabeth
Grace Polly
Grace Elizabeth Polly

:)

Grace Elizabeth.

Grace Polly doesn't "go", and Polly seems insubstantial next to Elizabeth (even though I like Polly). Polly Elizabeth works, though.

Mrsknackered · 25/05/2018 08:43

I’d just go with Grace Elizabeth.

Grace is beautiful and timeless.

Polly doesn't really fit well, so another vote here for Grace Elizabeth.

Polly Elizabeth Grace. Would be gorgeous
but I'm with everyone else
Grace Polly Elizabeth really doesn't flow.

I have two middle names - they are my grandmothers’ names. I like the thought behind it but, because there’s two names, I never use either of them. It’s too much and there’s never room to write themboth. Something to consider.

Grace Elizabeth Dorothy. (Isn't Polly a nn for Dorothy?)
Grace Elizabeth Mary (confusingly, it seems Polly is a nn for Mary too)

If you have future DD, will they also have the same middle names? Or can you have Elizabeth/Polly for this one and Polly/Elizabeth for the next one.

InkSnail · 25/05/2018 10:26

I thought Polly was nn for Mary?

rainbowdashflip · 25/05/2018 10:31

Middle names are pretty much never used anyway so I would just give the one, make form filling easier for her when she is older.

PanannyPanoo · 25/05/2018 10:34

Grace Elizabeth Polly sounds lovely.

She can use whatever she chooses when she grows up. Maybe drop one of the names if she likes. I think its lovely that you have represented both sides of the family.

If you will regret not using one of the names then use them all. I really regretted not using one of my favourite names for 2 years, until we got a cat!

I think Grace Elizabeth Polly sounds lovely :)

We're in the same boat. We are naming our little boy Harley and his middle name will be Neil after DH's dad through family tradition. However can't help thinking that Harley Neil sounds like yet another brand of motorbike so thinking of adding another name in to soften it up a little.

Grace Elizabeth Polly

Rose459 · 25/05/2018 13:46

Thanks everyone.

I might just save Polly incase we have another girl (way in the future) and go with Grace Elizabeth.

It’s so hard now her arrival is getting nearer, before I was pregnant I always knew what I would call my baby girl. Now it’s all changed!

If you want to use both then I say do it. You'll probably regret it if you don't. It's your baby your choice. Smile

HeyDolly · 25/05/2018 15:59

I think Polly ‘goes’ if it’s used as a first name

Polly Grace Elizabeth
Polly Elizabeth Grace

But it doesn’t flow right imo if used as a middle name for Grace

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/05/2018 16:33

Grace Elizabeth.

NapQueen · 25/05/2018 16:35

Grace Elizabeth and save Polly for dd2. I used my two favourite names on dc1 and thank goodness dc2 was the opposite sex!

Joeybee · 26/05/2018 03:56

Grace Elizabeth goes well. I don't think Polly goes with Grace at all. I wouldn't use two middle names, trust me it's annoying. Often when I fill out forms there isn't enough room to fit on my whole name. One name is enough, and if she's going to be Grace Elizabeth that's enough to be writing out! Lovely name though.

Cosmoa · 26/05/2018 04:07

Myself and my partner recently gave our daughter two middle names and announced her full name to everyone. Once we did I suddenly hated it and felt like I'd burdened her with more names than she'll use unless she's filling in forms.. Only second middle name was after her grandmother so we had to awkwardly tell her we were going to remove it Blush cringe! Luckily she as lovely about it...

RoseMartha · 26/05/2018 07:19

Grace Elizabeth sounds lovely .

Ever since she was young my sister had a name picked out if she ever had a daughter. She had a daughter but the name she had picked out all that time ago and still liked was not chosen between herself and her partner in the end, not even when she had another daughter later on. She does not regret that choice.
