To go with middle name William

We originally agreed on Dylan as it’s the only name I really love but DH’s father has just passed away and it would be nice to use his name (William) for the baby’s middle name. Dylan William doesn’t sound right out loud so having to go back to square one.

Initial thoughts from hubby are Edward William or Henry William but I’m not a huge fan, plus baby is due this week so don’t want anything too “Royal” with the wedding taking place...

Hubby is quite traditional in his choices so Ezra, Noah and Teddy have all been vetoed.

Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated Grin

Could you add a second middle name to make a flow a bit better?

eg one of the two names your DH suggested - Dylan Edward William or Dylan Henry William?

Otherwise I think Dylan Arthur William sounds nice!

Could you compromise with Edward William, nickname Teddy?

I have the middle name william. After my grand father
My initials are D w s

Even tho i have the middle name i dont use it much now im in my 30s

OneWouldHopeSo · 18/05/2018 11:52

I would do what mini suggests and have two middle names - shame not to use Dylan.

LincsK · 18/05/2018 12:39

Thank you, that’s really helpful! I like the idea of two middle names - would be pleased to still use Dylan :)

Could you swap it around? William Dylan?

17caterpillars1mouse · 18/05/2018 13:52

I don't think Dylan William is a bit deal to be honest. Yes it's a slightly similar sound but it's not like you've going to call him Dylan William all the time. If you love Dylan then i wouldn't compromise a different name just fot what it sounds like with the chosen middle name

LincsK · 18/05/2018 13:53

@pudding01 I think the family would find it a bit strange having the same name, plus they always called him Bill so less fond of that :s Thank you for the suggestion though

There's an educational professor called Dylan Wiliam! I think it sounds fine but 2 middle names flows nicely too.

deptfordgirl · 18/05/2018 14:04

To be honest I think any name goes with William.

PastaSauceHoarder · 18/05/2018 14:10

I also think any name goes with William actually - my dad, brother and husband all have it as their middle names!
LOVE the name Dylan though.

Jenijena · 18/05/2018 14:13

James goes really well, IME.

And it sounds great if you’re the sort of parent who uses the full name when telling your child off.

And Jimmy Billy is cool on better days :)

MikeUniformMike · 18/05/2018 18:41

I don't like Dylan but like William.
Why not call the baby William Dylan, Will for short, so that he is not Bill.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/05/2018 22:48

Dylan is a great name !
Dylan John William
Dylan Luke William
Dylan James William
Dylan Harvey William
Dylan Scott William
Dylan Morgan William

Little one was born on Sunday and turned out to be a girl so is Erin instead! Thank you for the suggestions, though!
