Just that! Which is nicer?

I'm going to say neither. Julia is old fashioned and Tulia sounds like a made up name.

TuTru · 18/05/2018 09:21

Hmmmm Julia is better than Tulia

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2018 09:22

Tulia? Is that a name? Looks like a typo for Julia

Julia is lovely

BertrandRussell · 18/05/2018 09:22

Julia.
Tulia looks like a typo.

vampirethriller · 18/05/2018 09:26

Tulia is Latin. Can be spelt Tullia.
I don't like any of the popular old fashioned names like Florence/Violet/Alice but I don't want a modern sounding name either!v my own name is ridiculous and I want something normal but not over used....

Sophronia · 18/05/2018 09:32

Both are nice, but I prefer Julia.

InkSnail · 18/05/2018 09:35

Is Tulia pronounced Tooleea, Tyew-leea or Tullya?

LadyChatterlysLoofah · 18/05/2018 09:36

I like Yulia....

astoundedgoat · 18/05/2018 09:39

Then spell it Tullia.

Although the most famous Tullia in classics was Cicero's daughter, who died as a child, triggering his Consolatio, so it has sorrowful connotations. It's a very pretty name though, just don't invent a spelling!

vampirethriller · 18/05/2018 09:45

Tooleea.
I didn't invent the Tulia spelling, I've seen it written that way in name books. I know the Cicero's daughter story from my Roman history degree, her sister was Julia, I've always liked the sound of both names.

vampirethriller · 18/05/2018 09:49

Or I thought her sister was Julia, but it's a long time ago I did my degree and could be wrong and getting confused!!

MissWilmottsGhost · 18/05/2018 09:53

I think people would think Tulia was a typo/misheard and 'correct' it to Julia.

WowserBowser · 18/05/2018 09:55

Julia! And don't listen to the old fashioned comments. Most names were at some point.

vampirethriller · 18/05/2018 09:57

Julia goes with my surname. It's surely not unusually old fashioned when people are using Ivy and Mabel etc.
(historical Tullia didn't even have a sister so god knows where I got that fromGrin)

Joeybee · 18/05/2018 09:59

Julia. It's a lovely name. Underused now, probs because to some people it's dated. To me it sounds classy, elegant and great that it's known but not popular.

Eolian · 18/05/2018 10:01

Surely Tulia and Tullia would be pronounced differently though. Tulia should rhyme with Julia, but the double L version (which us the only way I've seen it in Latin) would rhyme with 'woollier'. Either way, Julia is nicer.

BertrandRussell · 18/05/2018 10:04

If you want it to be pronounced Tullia you have to spell it like that.

gwen25 · 18/05/2018 10:13

I love Julia.
Tulia is very nice too, but I would spell it Tullia -that's the original Latin spelling.

n0ne · 18/05/2018 10:17

I like Tullia pronounced to rhyme with woolier. Tulia does seem like a typo and Julia is fine but I don't love it. Have you considered Thalia?

AllyMcBeagle · 18/05/2018 10:17

Julia is one of my favourite names.

I'm not so keen on Tulia. I haven't heard it before and I assumed (albeit wrongly) that it was something you had made up. I imagine others will think the same.

vampirethriller · 18/05/2018 10:42

I like the Tulia pronunciation over Tullia hence the way I spelt it. I like Julia more than Tulia!
How would you say Thalia?

OP posts:
Murane · 18/05/2018 10:46

If I saw it written down I'd probably "correct" Tulia to Julia. I might even pronounce it as Julia because T looks very similar to J in most fonts.

AllyMcBeagle · 18/05/2018 10:47

How would you say Thalia?

Ta-lia

'Ta' as in the slang for 'thank you'.
'Lia' as in the end of 'Julia'.

BertrandRussell · 18/05/2018 11:00

Thalia- rhymes with failure. No idea where the Talia pronounciation comes from.

MammieBear · 18/05/2018 11:07

Ahh Julia is a lovely name, not sure on Tulia though...
