Lyra middle name

We've just found out we're having a girl and love the name Lyra. Dp is part Greek and works in astrophysics, and I loved the dark material books as a child, so it's pretty perfect. We're stuck on a middle name though. Surname is quite long (5 syllable) and double barralled, so looking for something quite short. Surname also starts with an 'ah' sound so looking for a name that does end with that sound.

We don't have any names that are meaningful or traditional within our families, but would love something which does have a meaning of some sort. As in, either the name itself has a nice meaning, or is the name of a significant woman from history/ science/ feminism. That kind of thing.

Sorry for the impossible challenge!

Marie (Marie curie)

Ada

NordicNobody · 17/05/2018 16:10

I like Alice but it's my sisters middle name as well so might be weird?

Like Marie but dp doesn't sadly

Love Ada and so does dp but I'm not sure it goes with Lyra? Lyra Ada and then another Ah with the surname. Too many A sounds? It's a shame because it's a really great name!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Lyra Fleur
Lyra Pearl
Lyra Ariadne

What about Lyra Seren? We also have a Welsh connection. Is it too much to have both names star themed?

I'm Cornish so also like Elowen, meaning Elm. Lyra Elowen. But it's a bit of a mouthful with our last name.

I know a Lyra Kate which is lovely

bridgetreilly · 17/05/2018 17:15

Lyra Elm would be lovely.

Also:
Lyra Wren
Lyra Rowan
Lyra Maple

Lyra Seren is lovely!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/05/2018 17:43

Lyra Eleni. Eleni means 'light' in Greek.

Dixiestampsagain · 18/05/2018 00:09

I like Lyra Seren and Lyra Kate (almost my dd!)

Smoliver · 18/05/2018 00:42

Lyra Jane (Jane Austin/Goodall)
Lyra Anne (Anne Frank)
Lyra Joan (Joan of Arc/Beauchamp Procter)

Mycatiskillingme · 18/05/2018 00:48

I like Lyra Valentina (first name of first woman in space) and
Lyra Gaia

Itwontrainallthetime · 18/05/2018 01:21

Our dd is called Lyra loved the name since I read the books as a teenager and I said to myself, if I ever have children and im blessed with a girl this is what I will name her. My DH loved it too . And believe it or not when my daughter was born she had/has a birth mark on her forehead only slight and is faded now, but it's in the shape of the constellation.
My dds middle name is Lily.
Was going to add another middle name so Lyra Lily Rose. But held off the other middle name.

I also liked the name Xelha it's pronounced Shella. I liked the way it
looks with the X but I would be setting up a world of trouble for my dd having her to explain how to say/spell it.
Lyra is hard for some to get right in itself.

I'm sure you will find one that stands out for you and you will instantly think that's the one.

Aw thanks everyone, great suggestions! Valentina is a fabulous name. It would make her full name about a zillion syllables long, but the surname is already so long and flowery that perhaps I can talk dp into taking an "in for a penny, in for a pound" approach! She's already going to be spelling her name down the phone for the rest of her life anyway, so not worried about unusual spellings. Celeste is very pretty as well.

Sadly dp isn't keen on either seren or Elowen. Or, at least, he does like them, but they "just don't sound quite right" for reasons he can't articulate 🙄 His top suggestions are Selene, which I quite like, and Daphne, which I do like but can't think of without hearing Daphne from Frasier claiming to be "a little bit psychic" 😂

Also @Itwontrainallthetime that's crazy about your dds birth mark! My dp has a birthmark in the exact shape of the country he was born in. It's so weird.

Lyra Seren is absolutely beautiful

SnowGoArea · 18/05/2018 15:12

What a shame he doesn't like them. I do like Daphne though.

Other suggestions

Vivienne
Juno
June
Olive
Evadne

Yeh I like Lyra Seren the best as well. Ah well, maybe he'll come round to it. He was dead against our sons name at first as well. Hard veto, never even made it to the short list. Then when he was born none of the short list names felt right. He was 5 days old before I suggested his name again and this time dp was like "yes, it suits him perfectly!"

Olive and Evadne are nice as well. I was thinking about Olive earlier actually after reading the other thread on here discussing it.
