Hi! We have a girl's name pretty much decided (Nell - would be officially either Ellen or Eleanor) but struggling with boys' names.

Orson is a pretty strong contender. the husband loves it. I QUITE like it. But something about it isn't quite hitting the spot for me. So any suggestions on an Orson vein?!

Other names on the list...Husband likes one syllable names and I want there to be a longer 'formal' option and the shortened one if we go with that. I like options :D

Roddy/Roderick
Rory
Stanley
Fergus
Max
Stanley
Killian / Cillian (my number one but our surname begins with K so might be too much)
Kit (Same K issue)
Orin
Isaac
Isaiah
Finley

Thanks for your thoughts!

Sydney
Bertram
Jarvis
Jasper?

AyeWhySwim · 14/05/2018 13:58

No help with other suggestions but I love Kit - would you have a longer name for it on bc?

peytonlia · 14/05/2018 13:59

I like Rory, Max, Isaac and Isaiah from your list. :) Some other suggestions:

Flynn (similar to Finley but a much stronger name imo)
Blake
Nathaniel (Nate)
Jeremiah
Maxwell
Miles
Archer (Arch/Archie)
Elias/Elijah (Eli)

IggyAce · 14/05/2018 14:04

Alexander several options for nn my favorite is Xander.
Kit could be Christopher on BC I wouldn't worry too much about both names starting with the same letter.

cone · 14/05/2018 14:06

I like Isaiah and Max.

Leo
Raymond
Julian
Torin
Wilbur
Thomas
Charles
Jasper
Elliott
Alban
Nathaniel
Henry
Cassius
Felix

Ooh thanks all! Love the J suggestions @BevBrook. And Flynn is great, @peytonlia, hadn't thought of that. I LOVE Eli/Elliot but it's already been vetoed by the husband. We also like Archie and Nathaniel but have close friends/family members with those already. Same for Alexander, sadly - I like it and lots of variations but we have too many close Alexs already!

Yes @IggyAce I think Kit would be Christopher which I'm not super keen on but I think would be fine - I just want to keep the option there on the bc for them as they grow up!

@cone Torin is great too, thanks!

Orson and Cillian are great!

How about Reuben or Quentin?

bridgetreilly · 14/05/2018 16:48

Fergus/Gus.

Kate123cl · 14/05/2018 16:52

Ray, Zake, Blake??

Kate123cl · 14/05/2018 16:53

Zeke* sorry

Sophronia · 14/05/2018 18:56

Oswin?

heateallthebuns · 14/05/2018 19:08

I did not have boys suggestions but if I ever have a girl I too would go for Eleanor shortened to Nell!

buttercup54321 · 14/05/2018 20:23

Jonathan
Daniel
Samuel
out of your list I like Rory and Max

Canone · 14/05/2018 21:43

If you like Torin and Orin and Cillian, how about Corin? I love it!

mintich · 14/05/2018 21:47

Love your list except Stanley

Looselytranslated · 14/05/2018 21:49

If you like Isaiah you might like Esaias
Flynn was on our list too, lovely name
Arlo is growing in popularity but very sweet
Orin is lovely though the Orin I know is a girl
Fergus I love (outlander fan!) also Angus

stopbeingadramallama · 14/05/2018 23:12

I have a Stanley🤗don't like Fergus on your list. Rory is nice too.

Buntysoven · 14/05/2018 23:36

Kester?

TatianaLarina · 14/05/2018 23:51

This is Mork calling Orson.

Prefer Ossian.

EffRam · 15/05/2018 10:01

Thanks everyone! I like Ossian @tatianalarina !

We like Gus as a nickname hence Fergus and Angus making the cut. Our scottish connections are v diluted though so don't know if it's too much (Irish we can work with!)

@kate123cl the middle name may well be Ray after a granddad! I like Zeke but with a surname starting with K I wonder if it would sound like Zee... We had this discussion with Jack.

There is an Orin already in our family but more distant (he is a boy!) So i like the variations. Although my (female) cousin is Corinna. Too similar to Corin maybe?

@sonnyboo Reuben I also like but husband doesn't, Rufus is on the long list too though (I think Roo is a cute nickname).

@looselytranslated love Arlo but it got vetoed, same with Jago which I think is cool.

Forgot to say another one we both really like but aren't quite brave enough for is Jethro. I think it's a fab name - just can't imagine shouting it across a playground?!

Orlando, perhaps?

EffRam · 15/05/2018 10:13

Also meant to say I like Oisin but think the poor child would have to spend too long spelling/pronouncing it for people, so Ossian seems like a good contender.

Rory is my favourite boy's name atm. Eleanor with Nellie was on my girls list for DD2!
