We like the name Rafferty, Rafi for short. What comes to mind for you? TIA

LOVE it! It's a name I'd consider if it didn't clash with my surname. I think it's a really underused name and is fantastic. Raff/Raffi for short is great or Raffa.

AgentCooper · 10/05/2018 14:17

I think it's alright! Jude Law and Sadie Frost's Rafferty is very handsome. Love Rafa as a nickname. Honestly, I don't get why it's worse than all the trendy ones like Arlo etc.

MimiSunshine · 10/05/2018 14:24

I love it but it was vetoed with the reason given it apparently sounds like lots of letters just being jumbled out 😳🤨
No one else seemed to like it either, including a teacher who said she’d never heard of it before 😏

sunsetandcocktails · 10/05/2018 16:02

Thanks everyone! Looks like it's a very marmite name which doesn't put us off. Have a few months to go so will try it out for a bit

Awful.
Ralph

Momadream · 13/05/2018 00:45

Awful? Surprised at the responses. I know one and he suits the name, it’s a nice name. NMS but a nice name nevertheless

Aridane · 13/05/2018 00:48

Naff naff Nafferty

toffee1000 · 14/05/2018 20:19

I don't like it, it doesn't sound like a name to me. Am surprised at the responses, I thought MN seemed to LOVE Rafferty.

FlyingDandelionSeed · 14/05/2018 20:40

The only Rafferty I have met was from an Indian family so I (racistly) assumed it was Indian. Rafi totally suited him, as he was quite raffish!

BackIntoTheSun · 14/05/2018 21:13

I love it

DramaAtTheTurkeyCafe · 15/05/2018 20:18

I picture a very friendly, active, slightly cheeky little boy. I think I'd like him! As an adult, probably someone quite outdoorsy and a bit scruffy, in a nice way.

FaultySpice · 15/05/2018 20:23

I like it. There was a Rafferty in my class last year and it suits him brilliantly. Sounds ace with his one syllable surname.

Suzi11 · 15/05/2018 20:40

I have a 9 week old Rafferty. We get mixed reviews when we tell people his name. Some people think it's cool, whereas other people say "oh that's different" (I.e. they hate it). I initially didn't like the name and wasn't going to be persuaded by the other half, but when he came out it suited him best or I was high on gas & air, and I love it now. We call him Raffy, but I'd imagine he'll be Raf when his a teen and Rafferty as an adult.

It is an Irish surname and it means prosperity

purplecorkheart · 15/05/2018 20:52

It's would not be to my taste. I think of it as a surname.

DarthArts · 15/05/2018 21:11

I quite like it tbh.

I think the variations are all nice and "age" quite well as a boy grows up.

iris96 · 15/05/2018 23:47

I love the name Rafferty. I think it sounds so cute, but equally suitable for an adult too!

BakedBeans47 · 15/05/2018 23:48

I like it

Tonicwaterandgin · 16/05/2018 17:33

wondering if FaultySpice used to teach my son?

I have a 7 yo Rafferty. We had similar experience to Suzi11 - it's either "I love it!" or "Oh... That's different / unusual" meaning they hate it. We've never met another one yet. I'm laughing at it being described as "try hard" though! If you knew me I'm the least likely person to try emulate a 'sleb. We just tried to avoid him growing up like we did in the eighties/nineties being known as "Claire T" "John A" because there were several others in the class. Plus it's easy to spell and pronounce. He loves it so I'm happy.
He prefers to go by Raff, but gets Raffy at home, close family etc.

MrsCD67 · 16/05/2018 19:08

3 things come to mind:
Gerry Rafferty
Jude Law's son
Dogs

That being said, I do like the name!

midsomermurderess · 16/05/2018 19:26

I have a friend whose surname is Rafferty. It amuses him to see it growing in popularity as a first name. When he was growing up in Glasgow, it marked him out as a fenian bastard, a left footer. Depends where you live, I suppose.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 16/05/2018 19:29

I know a 14yo Rafferty. It was certainly considered a bit poncey back then but maybe it's a bit more mainstream now it's a celeb name.

Oly5 · 16/05/2018 19:31

Love it. Was my top choice but DH vetoed it
